Can dogs and cats get along well in the same home? People who are thinking about getting a dog as a friend for their cat are worried that they will fight. A recent research has found that if the cat is taken back home before the dog, and if they are introduced when still young (less than 6 months for cats, a year for dogs), it is highly probable that the two pets will get along swimmingly. In two-thirds of the homes cats and dogs have a good relationship.
However, it wasn’t all sweetness and light. There was a reported coldness between the cat and dog in 25% of the homes, while aggression (侵略,好斗) and fighting were found in 10% of the homes. One reason for this is probably that some of their body languages are just different. For example, when a cat turns its head away it means aggression, while a dog doing the same means submission (顺从).
In homes with cats and dogs living in peace, researchers found a surprising behavior. They are learning how to talk each other’s language. It is a surprise that cats can learn how to talk “Dog”, and dogs can learn how to talk “Cat”.
What’s interesting is that both cats and dogs have appeared to become smarter. They can learn to read each other’s body languages, suggesting that the two may have more in common than was expected. Once familiar with each other’s body language, cats and dogs can play together, and enjoy sleeping together on the sofa.
The importance of this research on cats and dogs may go beyond pets – to people who don’t get along well, including neighbors, workmates, and even countries. If cats and dogs can learn to get along, surely people have a good chance. 31. The underlined word swimmingly in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to ______________.

Often there is a lot of interactivity(相互作用) between students and teachers. In my mind, teachers are here and not only to teach us their knowledge but also to listen to what we want to say – indeed, students aren’t afraid to tell them what they think any more. However, this doesn’t mean that teachers don’t control their classes. It just shows the fact that times have changed, and so have methods. Teachers are now closer to their students and have developed a kind of easy atmosphere (气氛) that allows students to be in class without feeling restricted (受约束的) to all kinds of rules. It makes the time the students spend in the classroom more pleasant. However, we can see that the “power” is still in the teachers’ hands – if something goes wrong it is up to him or her to react properly and even to punish if it is necessary. Let’s look at an example to explain my thoughts. Here is what we do with Mr Fynn in the English lab. Although he is “cool” with us, he can sometimes be very strict when we don’t do our homework or we speak French in class. Besides, he is a nice man and he is very friendly after class. Not all teachers are like him, but a few are. It is nice to work with them as they set a good mood in a group. This makes it easier to understand new knowledge and do our best on tests.

A. Their age gap. B. The way in which teachers control their students.
C. The role they play in class. D. The distance between their houses.
36. Who is the most powerful at school according to the passage? A. The teachers. B. The oldest people.

You’ve heard it all before --- to lose weight, you must burn many more calories. But anyone who has tried to lose weight knows it’s not so easy! As a matter of fact, about two-thirds of people who have just lost weight will put it back on within a year.
For many people, trying to lose weight means going on a diet, and they usually fail because they can’t stand feeling hungry. Losing weight is not a one-time activity, but something you have to plan for a long time.
In other words, don’t expect to become “thin” in no time at all. Experts agree that losing weight slowly is healthier than a quick fix. My suggestion is that you should try to lose no more than a couple of pounds a week.
Although this doesn’t seem like much, slow weight loss is the only way to avoid “yo –yo dieting (体重忽上忽下)”, where you lose a great deal of weight, only to put it back on within a few months or years. There is no shortcut to lose weight; go for slow change toward a healthier life, and think always of the long term (期限).
Losing weight Introduction It’s 1 to lose weight. 2 for failing to lose ? They can’t stand feeling hungry. weight ? Losing weight is something you have to make a 3 for a long time. ?
