A. At the time we write, the reader exists only in our imaginations, and, thus, writing is above all an act of pretense. B. If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk in his language that goes to his heart. C. Speaking and writing involve very different kinds of human relationship, and only the one associated with speech comes to us naturally D. An active composing a manifesto must write as if he is standing in front of a crowd and whipping up their emotion E. The spoken word is older than our specie, and the instinct for language allows children to engage in clear conversation years before they enter a schoolhouse. F. If they need clarification, or cannot believe what has been said, or have something to add, they can break into the conversation or follow up in a turn. Writing is an unnatural act. As Charles Darwin observed. “ Men has an instinctive tendency to speak, as we see in the babble of our young children, whereas no child has an instinctive tendency to bake, brew, or write.” 77 But the written word is a recent invention that has left not trace in our genes and must be laboriously acquired throughout childhood and beyond.

Speech and writing differ in how they are acquired or developed or in their mechanics, of course, and that is one reason children must struggle with writing: it takes practice to reproduce the sounds of language with a pencil or a keyboard. But they differ in another way, which makes

the acquisition of writing a lifelong challenge even after the mechanics have been mastered.

78 . Spoken conversation is instinctive because social interaction is instinctive, we speak to those with whom we are on speaking terms. When we engage our conversation partners, we have some idea of what they know and what they might be interested in learning, and as we chat with them, we monitor their eyes, their faces, and their posture. 79 . We enjoy none of this give-and-take when we cast our bread upon the waters by sending a written letter out into the world. The recipients are invisible and inscrutable, and we have to get

through to them without knowing much about them or seeing their reactions. 80 we have to visualize ourselves in some kind of conversation, or letter writing or public speech, or monologue, and put words in to the mouth of the little avatar who presents up in this imagined world. Sales strategies

How can a company improve its sales? One of the keys to more effective selling is for a company to first decide on its “sales strategy”. In other words, what is the role of the salesperson? Is the salesperson?s job narrative, suggestive, or consultative?

The \sales presentation. His or her pitch highlights the benefits for the customer of a particular product or service. This approach is most effective for customers whose buying motives are basically the same and is also well suited to companies who have a large number of prospects on which to call.

The \must be in a position to offer alternative recommendations that meet a particular customer's needs. One key aspect of the suggestive approach is the need for the salesperson to engage the buyer in some sort of discussion. The salesperson can then use the information gleaned from the customer to suggest an appropriate product or service.

The final strategy demands that a company's sales staff act as \this role, the salesperson must acquire a great deal of information about the customer. They do this

through market research, surveys, and face-to-face discussions. Using this information, the salesperson makes a detailed presentation tailored specifically to a customer's needs.

More and more sales teams are switching from a narrative or suggestive approach to a more consultative strategy. As a result, corporations are looking more at intangibles such as creativity and analytical skills and less at educational background and technical skills.

Sales strategies are classified as narrative, suggestive and consultative. Salespersons use narrative strategies to promote products with standard presentations. By suggestive strategies, they recommend a suitable product after talking with customers. They present products to customers in a way aimed at particular needs based on acquired information by consultative strategy, which is the most valued.
