十五、目的句型 1. 正面目的句
句型270[主句+that/ so that+目的从句]

2. 反面目的句
句型274[主句+for fear that…(虚拟式谓语)/ for fear of+动名词]

1. Take care lest you fall. (=Take care that you may not fall.)
2. Grown people should never say or do anything wrong before children, lest they should set them a bad
example. 3. I will not make a noise lest I wake the child. 4. Please remind me of it again tomorrow, in case I (should) forget.
5. She explained again and again in case comrades should misunderstand her. 6. I shall ring you up in case you should forget to come.
[注1] lest用在fear, afraid, danger等词后连接名词从句,等于that, 但意义不同。如:
I was afraid lest (=that) he should come too late. So we came to the island of the wild goats, where we found our comrades, who indeed had waited long for us in sore fear lest we had perished.

[注2] 口语中最好用别的方式代替lest。如:(不宜)Better put on a scarf lest you catch cold. (改为) Better put on a scarf
in case you catch cold. Better put on a scarf in order not to catch cold. Better put on a scarf, or you may catch cold.
[附注] 表示目的句式还有其他方式:
1) ―see (to it) that…‖ 如: We must see (to it) that the job is finished ahead of schedule.
2) ―…for the purpose of…‖ 如:I‘m not here tonight for the purpose of making a speech.
3) ―…for the sake of…‖ 如:Huang Jiguang gave his life for the sake of our motherland.
4) ―…for the good (benefit) of…‖ 如:The teacher repeated part of his previous lecture for the good of those who
had been absent. 5) ―…with a view (an eye) to+动名词…‖ 如:He reads aloud a great deal with an eye (a view) to improving his
pronunciation. 6) ―…with the view (或aim, intent, or object) of+动名词…‖ 如:He does everything with the view of serving his
motherland and the people. She has gone downtown with the intent of making some purchases (shopping).
十六、结果句型
句型276[前句, +so/ therefore/ thus/ hence+后句]
1. This rain is not likely to stop for some time, so we had better hurry home. 2. I‘ve never spent a holiday on a farm, so I don‘t know what it‘s like. 3. He was very tired, and therefore he fell sound asleep. 4. Since you do not know, therefore I shall have to tell you. 5. It was already rather late, thus (so) we decided to go home.
6. They cost a lot of money, so (therefore/ hence) use them carefully. 7. Boyle discovered it; hence it is called Boyle‘s law.
8. The word iis an uncountable noun and is used in a general sense, hence it takes no article. 句型277[主句+so that/ that+从句]
1. It was very cold, so that the river froze. 2. What have I done that he should cut me? 3. We worked fast and well, so that we overfulfilled our production plan.
4. Our group did very well in the workshop that we were praised by the workers.

1. I was very tired, --so tired that I could hardly keep my eyes open. 2. He spoke so rapidly that we could not clearly understand him. 3. We have so arranged matters that one of us is always on duty. 4. He is speaking so loud that I hear him even from here.
5. In New Zealand the climate is so mild that the grass keeps green all the year round. 句型279[主语+谓语…+such+形容词/ 副词+that+从句][主语+谓语…+such that+从句] 1. I feel one must live in such a way that others may live better. 2. He made such an excellent speech, that everyone admired him.
3. Such was the force of the explosion that all the windows were broken. 4. The weather was such (=so hot) that I could not go out.
5. His progress was such (= so great) that it surprised the teacher. 6. He was such a selfish man that nobody would help him. [注] 本句型与句型161 ―such…as‖ 完全不同,注意比较。
