Arinze Stanley is a talented young Nigerian artist whose works often leave people asking themselves if they’re looking at a pencil drawing or a high-definition (髙清的) black and white photograph. Yes, his drawing skills are that good!
Arinze’s interest in art, and drawing in particular, was started at a young age, primarily by the fact that he was always surrounded by paper. His family ran a paper company, so he would often kill time by picking up a piece of paper and trying his hand at drawing. But he only started exploring hyper-realism (超写实主义) in 2012, and became a professional artist a year later. He has never taken any professional art classes, and says that the level of detail he is able to produce is only the result of years of practice. Looking at his fantastic artworks, you’re safe to say that he has come a long way in very little time.
“I’ve got a motto I work with and that’s ‘Practice, Patience, and PeraiHtencef1 (坚持)’,” Arinze said. “Constant practice made me better at what I do but it would not have been possible without persistence and patience, as I take over 200 hours to complete a drawing and I only have time to work during the night due to my busy schedule at work during the day.”
Arinze says that he takes inspiration for his artworks from everything around him, and takes reference photos himself using a camera, but focuses primarily on portraits (肖像画). He admits that he often ends up staring at people’s faces unconsciously? and adds that being a portrait artist has made him appreciate the varieties of human facial structures and details. 25. Despite being used by 1.34 billion people each year, traveling on the Tube in London can actually be quite lonely. An unwritten rule encouraging silence mixed with classic British reserve means that even though you’re packed into a small space with hundreds of other people, the morning commute (通勤) can leave you feeling somewhat separate.
One London resident, however, is trying to change this.
Jonathan Dunne, 42, an American living in London, has started a worldwide dialogue after giving out “badges (徽章)” with the words “Tube chat?” last month, encouraging commuters in London to get talking to each other.
“I handed out 500 badges during rush hour in a city of 8 million expecting most of them to be thrown away, but after about 24 hours it completely snowballed,” he says.
Dunne and his “Tube chat?” campaign have since featured (具有特色) in media across the world, seeing TV interviews in Sweden, Brazil, and the UK, as well as countless websites, newspaper and magazine appearances.
Although Dunne says he’s received mostly positive feedbacks (反馈), not everyone agrees with him. Londoner Brian Wilson responded with a campaign of his own, handing out 500 badges with the words “Don’t even think about it” on them.

Located in the northeast of Italy, Venice is well-known for its cultural treasures, romantic atmosphere and unusual living-on-water experience. The city spreads out over 118 islands, which are linked by more than 400 bridges, in the Venetian Lagoon.
Venice’s historical center consists of six regions. Italy in the south, the busiest main regions, are linked by the Rialto Bridge. The famous stone arch bridge (拱桥) crosses Venice’s main waterway—the Grand Canal. When night falls, many tourists enjoy dinner at the outside tables by the Grand Canal while watching

Near the end of the S-shaped Grand Canal lies St. Mark’s Basilica, a must-see. Inside, beautiful mosaics (镶嵌图案) tell stories of Bible figures. Nearby are the Doge’s Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. These were made famous by Lord Byron, “I stood in Venice on the Bridge of Sighs, a palace and prison on each hand.” Tale has it that if a couple passes under the bridge, their love will last forever.
In the square outside the Basilica, lovers of literature can sit at Caffe Florian, regarded as the oldest coffee house in Europe. Charles Dickens, Henry James as well as Lord Byron enjoyed the aromatic (芳香的) drink here.
Art lovers should buy a museum pass and visit some of the city’s rare museums. They can view works by Venetian masters like Giovanni, Titian and Tintoretto.
On five small islands in the Venetian Lagoon, Murano has been home to glass-makers since 1291. Tourists can visit factories, studios and the Glass Museum. Glass artists produce everything from simple souvenir pieces to beautiful works of contemporary art. Only glassworks made using traditional methods on Murano can be called Murano Glass. The nearby island of Burano is famous for lace (蕾丝) making and colorful houses.
