Abstract
Language is an important means of communication. Likewise, body language is also an important means of communication. This paper is about the application of body language in English teaching. In English teaching, teachers should create a better atmosphere in English class. However, with the limitation of students’ vocabulary, teachers have to simplify their teaching language with the help of facial expressions and body movements to arouse the students’enthusiasm and to improve the efficiency of teaching.
This paper is divided into five parts. It includes introduction, general study of body language, the necessity and importance of using body language in English teaching, the concrete application of body language in different aspects (listening, speaking, reading, writing), the use of body language in English teaching at different stages (primary school, middle school, college). As nonverbal communication plays a significant role in the interaction between teachers and students, body language can complement verbal messages and can communicate as effectively as words. Using body language in English teaching can improve the efficiency of learning English and optimize the design of English classroom activities. Teachers should make good use of body language in classroom teaching and at the same time great attention should be paid to the principles of using body language in order to achieve the best teaching results.

摘 要
语言是人类交际的重要手段。同语言一样,肢体语言也是一种重要的交流方式。本篇论文是关于肢体语言在英语教学中的运用。在英语教学中,教师应在课堂上为学生创造英语学习的良好氛围。然而,由于学生词汇量有限,教师必须通过面部表情及身体行为来简化自己的教学过程,激发学生热情,提高教学效果。
论文将分成五个部分:包括简介、关于肢体语言的简要研究、肢体语言在英语教学中的必要性和重要性、肢体语言在不同方面的具体运用(听、说、读、写)、肢体语言在不同阶段在教学中的运用(小学、中学、大学)。作为在非语言教学中扮演着极其重要的作用,在老师和学生的互动中,肢体语言可以完善口头信息和能有效的表达词语的意思。肢体语言有助于激发学生的学习兴趣,提高教学效果。在英语教学中,使用肢体语言能够提高学习的效率和优化英语课堂活动的设计。教师应充分利用肢体语言在课堂教学,并在同时应注意运用肢体语言的原则,以达到最佳的学习效果。

Introduction
With rapid changes in education reform, many teachers, students and parents are facing great challenges and stresses. Most people may agree its direction for changes and missions proposed, and support the alternative ways of teaching, learning and examination.
Action is a form of communication. Just as Benjamin Franklin said, “none preaches better than the ant, and she says nothing.” Body language means more than just hand or arm gestures; it refers to any little movement of any part of the body. According to some scholars in this field, the body language vocabulary totals over 700,000, more than that in the largest English dictionary. Any attempt at cataloging them would be frustrating and fruitless.(Hu, 2006, p. 102)
In daily life, both words and body language were used to express people’s thoughts and opinions and to communicate with other people. Informatiom about what a person is thinking by watching his or her body language can be got . Words are important, but the way a person stands, folds his or her arms, or moves his or her hands can also give us information about his or her feelings.
Body language is an important way of people to communicate with each other. It refers to people to communicate with each other with the help of facial expressions and body movements or gestures to express their meaning. Body language expert Fen. Lafle Angles once said, “without the help of body language, the baby will not be able to normal learning, and grow up.” (Hall, 1977, p. 30) It is the same for the teenagers. In school education, body language always plays a positive role in training students’ good personality. Teachers’ behavior is often the object of imitation for students, although a large proportion of these imitation are not on purpose, but if teachers can

use elegant and good body language in teaching and life, which will guide students to form aesthetic and moral values. At the same time, making full use of body language can help the students to form positive character and help them to develop harmonious interpersonal relationship.
