苏格拉底的一生

苏格拉底出生在公元前479年，是穷人家的儿子，父亲是一名雕塑匠，母亲是一名助产士。他怎样接受的教育我们不得而知，然而他对知识的热爱无疑为他的成才创造了大量的机会。后来他子承父业，但不久他发觉，通过质疑别人检验自己是一份高尚的工作。无论在大街上，市场里，还是体育馆他一贯喜欢参与各界人士的交谈，谈论各方面的话题：战争，政治，婚姻，友谊，爱情，家政，艺术和贸易，诗歌，宗教，科学，尤其是道德问题。

只要是人类的问题他都知道，人们生活中的所有的兴趣追求都是他质问的主题，唯独世界物质的一面他并不关注，他曾说自己没有能够从树木和石头中学到任何东西。他聪慧敏锐，能很快发现人们争论中的错误并且巧妙地把话题引向问题的中心。尽管他性情友善温和，颇具幽默感，但他喜欢揭露当时的骗子和庸医，用他的智慧戳穿他们的大白话。

苏格拉底是他所倡导的美德典范，他极其自律，宽容，高尚，朴素，忍耐；他的索取是极少的。七十多年里，大量的事实证明他无论是战争还是处理政治事务中表现出的物质和道德上的勇气。当时由于人们对他是无神论和腐蚀年轻人错误指控，他受到人们的谴责。在公元前339年喝了一种毒芹制的毒药而死。他生的伟大，死的光荣。

Tranlate the following passage into English (50)

It really makes me feel sad to see such an astonishing contrast pictures from the newspaper early this morning which shows a ninety- year-old academician who is giving a report with a walking stick on the platform, while many university students are sleeping under platform. Someone said it was a joke, it really is. The qualities of students slide to this and our moral education fails to this, which seem like a joke .

Most people show their anger to this issue, so the students will be the targets of public critic .It is widely believed that, first of all , we should basically have politeness of respecting knowledge ! Backwards to say , one should basically respect the old . How can you feel at that time , as a junior , when the most venerable senior who is unwearied to teach you , conduct you and solve the problems you met and you are sleeping ?

Besides listening lectures, it is common recently for college students who sleep in class and skip class .Admittedly , the teachers classes are unattractive and that’s part of the reasons , and the most troubling thing is the slides of student personal qualities . Teachers want their students to know the truth of life while students are interested in fame and interests; Teachers teach us how to develop ourselves through the whole life while students keep their eyes on seeking the short-term success and quick profits. Teachers keep us on the straight and narrow while the students prefer shortcuts. Note that students who sleep in class will probably fall down in their lives. What fallen are not only the students’ heath but also their upbringing , their moralities and their souls .

When I see this I feel worried about them. Where will be the future and who can protect our motherland when thousands of years’ spirits lost their ideals just for

material abundance? We should remember that country strengthens as its youths strengthen, If our teenagers are all in this state , how can they be ambitious and live it out ? We not only worry about their personal developments but our nation development and our nation dream .
