情态动词can和could的用法（见课本P82页）

can本身表示能力或可能性，用于指现在或将来，其后接动词原形,否定形式为cannot / can’t.

（1）表能力 e.g. He can read the book．（肯定式）

He cannot/ can’t read the book．（否定式）

(2)表示可能性 e.g. He can be a driver．（肯定式）

He cannot/ can’t be a driver．（否定式）

（3）表示许可 e.g. You can use my pen．（肯定式）

You cannot/ can’t use my pen．（否定式）

could为can的过去式，其后接动词原形，否定形式为couldn’t． （1） 表示过去的能力 e.g. He could swim last year．

（2） 表示可能性 e.g. You could be right，but I don’t think you are． （3） 表示许可 e.g. You could smoke in the room yesterday．

情态动词can和could的一般疑问句及其肯定和否定回答（见课本P83页） 1.Can he use your ruler？ Yes，he can / No he can’t.

2.Could you play football last year? Yes,I could / No,I couldn’t.

说明：表示许可，委婉地提出请求，给出建议．此时could与can没有时态上的差别，它并不表示过去，而是表示一种更委婉的语气． e.g. Could I help you？ （比Can I help you？委婉） Could I use your umbrella？

We couldn’t play football because Simon forgot to bring a football forget to do sth 意思是“忘记去做某事”，强调此事还没有做．forget doing sth意思是“忘记做过了某事”或者“忘记曾经做过某事”，强调做过的事情． 请选择：Don’t forget -------------the window when you leave． A．closing B．to close C．close D．closed
