摘 要

《飘》作为美国作家玛格丽特米切尔的代表作，是世界文学史上一部不朽著作，曾被译成27种语言185个不同版本，出版2500万册，一直畅销不衰。

《飘》是一部励志小说，小说为我们讲述了一个美国内战和重建期间鼓舞人心的故事，它着重描述了塔拉农场主的女儿斯嘉丽战前战后的生活，在线了鲜活宏大的战争场面。通过对斯嘉丽与阿希里、瑞特等人的感情的描写，刻画了一幅壮观而又生动的南方社会的生活画面。在作者塑造的众多人物当中，最具争议的人物莫过于瑞特·巴特勒。他骄傲叛逆，勇敢强势，时而像痞子，时而像绅士，如果可以用一种颜色去诠释他，那就是黑色。瑞特这个角色最为令读者津津乐道，但对于这个角色的研究仍然欠缺，所以本文将从个层面广泛地对这一人物进行研究,将以瑞特在文中扮演的不同角色为切入点对其性格进行剖析，使读者了解他是一个怎样的丈夫、父亲、商人，对瑞特性格的分析有助于读者更好地解读小说的主旨，深入小说的内庭。

An Analysis of Rhett's Personality in Gone with the Wind

Abstract

Gone with the Wind is the masterpiece of American writer Margaret Mitchell, it is one of the world‘s most popular books, with more than 25 million copies—in 27 languages and 185 editions.

Gone with the Wind is an encouraging book. The novel tell us a stirring story of the American Civil War and Reconstruction, it is brought vivid life in this really magnificent novel, it mainly about the life of Scarlett O‘Hara, the daughter of the owner of Tara Plantation. The author has portrayed a vivid and spectacular picture of South life through describing the love and disputes among Scarlett, Ashley and Rhett. Among these important characters describing in this book, the most controversial one is Rhett Butler. He is arrogant and rebel, brave and mighty, sometimes he like a riffraff, but another time he become an elegant gentlemen. In a word, he is a capricious person, if I can choose a kind of color to describe him, that is –black. The role of Rhett in the works has been very popular among readers, but the study concerning him is still lacking, so this paper is dedicated into a comprehensive study into the role of Rhett, by analyzing Rhett‘s different role in this paper, knowing which kind of a husband, a father and a successful businessmen he is, we could find out the characteristic of this men. Learning Rhett‘s personality can help readers understanding this figure better.
