he moved with his family to France, and four years later, they moved to the United States. (17) After college, he worked as a doctor in California, but after The Kite

Runner reached international success in 2003, he left medicine to be a full-time writer. (18) The Kite Runner, set in Afghanistan and California, is a story about

a young boy and his relationship with his father and best friend. The book spent four weeks at the number one spot on The New York Times Bestseller List and was made into a film in 2007. A Thousand Splendid Suns is Hosseini’s second novel and was published in 2007. (19) Also set in Afghanistan, the story follows two women during the time the Taliban took control of the country. The novel spent 15 weeks at the number one spot on The New York Times Bestseller List. His third novel And the Mountains Echoed was released in 2013. It is also a story about family, although

it’s not centered on any single character. The main relationship in the novel is between a brother and sister who are sold to a childless couple. (20) The book spent 33 weeks on The Times list, but it didn’t take the number one spot.
