一 教材分析 1 教学内容

本课是新目标英语八年级下册第五单元阅读部分,本单元的语言目标是:Talk about past events. 学习过去进行时。

本篇阅读以“谈论美国近代史上发生的重大事件”为主要内容,通过马丁路德金遇害,世贸大厦被毁这两个历史重大事件在人们记忆中留下的痕迹这一中心话题,使学生深入理解过去进行时的语言环境,培养学生在困境中互帮互助的价值观。 2 教学目标 知识目标:

词汇: passage, important events, in history, pupil, completely, silence, in silence, recently, date, tower, at first, realize, truth 语法:继续巩固练习过去进行时

理解目标:理解文章的两层含义:?字面含义:人们经常记得当重大事件发生时他们正在做的事情;?隐含意义:重大事件的发生能让人们团结起来,推动社会发展。

能力目标:通过本篇教学,着重培养学生根据文章信息对文章内容的推测,概括和搜索特定信息的能力。

情感目标:教育学生能够铭记中外历史上的重大事件,并学会在困境

中团结协作,互帮互助。 3 教学重难点

? 掌握运用推测,跳读,细读等阅读技巧,培养学生阅读中的推测及概括能力。

?对文章表面含义和隐含含义的理解。 二 教学策略

充分考虑初中生的好奇心和好胜心,采用个人抢答,小组讨论,小组比拼等手段提高学生参与课堂的积极性,使学生在愉悦的心情中学会阅读策略。这种教学模式在英语阅读课中的运用,能充分调动学生学习的积极性,有利于激发学生的创新意识,提高学生的阅读理解能力。 三 教学步骤

Step1 Warming up(活跃气氛)

设计教学情景:老师带领学生走进英语演讲比赛的现场,由一篇演讲稿 ? I have a dream ? 来引出马丁路德金的图片和世贸大厦被毁的图片,介绍重点词汇:important events, in American history.

由演讲比赛和图片介绍导入新词汇和本课话题,满足了学生的好奇心,达到了理想的教学效果。

Step2 Guessing game (推测游戏) ----培养学生的推测能力

Read the title and try to guess: What will this passage talk about? This passage will talk about the future events or the past events? Reading strategy1 : The title is very important for you to understand a

passage.

Step3 Fast reading

Prepare two questions for students. 1.What are the two events in the passage? 2. When did they happen?

速度全文,注意段首句和关键词,培养学生的分析概括能力。 Reading strategy2: It is also a good idea to read the first sentence of each paragragh.

Step4 Careful reading

Read and answer the question in each paragraph. 1.When did Dr. Martin Luther King die?

2.What was Robert Allen doing when Dr. King was killed? 3.When was the World Trade Center in New York taken down?

4.What was Kate Smith doing when the plane hit the World Trade Center?

Step5 Detail reading

Find out sentences from the passage with similar meanings to the ones below.

1. Not everyone will remember who killed him, but they can remember what they were doing when they heard that he got killed. 2 No one said anything for the rest of dinner.

3. September 11, 2001— the date alone means something to most people

in the US.

Step6 Group work

Why do people always remember what they were doing when

important events happened?

教师提示:That is because the important events changed something. They

changed people’s life , people’s ideas, even the value of a society. For example,Martin Luther King’s death led to black people’s freedom and the improvement of the American society. Everyone of us will meet some terrible things,but we can change terrible things into exciting things if we work together. 小组讨论展示,评选优秀小组和个人。

Step7 Homework

Describe a picture in your family, talk about these two questions:

Who was in the picture? What were they doing at that time?
