The title of the text is ?to work or not to work—that is the question?. Does this sentence pattern sound familiar to you? This sentence pattern is quite similar to a famous saying ?To be or not to be—that is the question?. Have you ever heard about it? Do you know where this famous saying comes from? It?s from Shakespeare?s Hamlet.Hamlet is Prince of Denmark, his fatherKing Hamlet died suddenly. His uncle Claudius, that?s his father?s brother, took throne for himself and got married to Hamlet?s mother. All these crushed the young prince?s life. He suffered from great pain, frustration and suspicion. he said, ?To be or not to be—that is the question?. For him it is a life-or-death question. Chinese meaning:生存还是毁灭,这是一个值得考虑的问题. Hamlet took revenge for his father, and killed his uncle King Claudius. How is Hamlet?s fate, live or die? Of course he died. If he lived, that?s a comedy. Hamlet is a tragedy. A tragedy often has a sad ending, usually involving death. Shakespeare has four great tragedies and Hamlet is one of them. Do you know the other three tragedies?

To cultivate our concept towards risks and uncertainties. There is much spare time in university and most students tend to waste it by sleeping or playing computer games.

Firstly, education as a long-term investment, it needs a lot of money and time to maintain. Doing part-time jobs with low costs is only a drop in the bucket to ease economic pressure. On the other hand, most of the money the students earn is spent on themselves. They would buy high-priced items.

Secondly, it is a way to be independent but not the only one. Students also can get confidence in various campus activities. Thirdly,Some students may be cheated or hurt by their employers, because they don't know how to protect themselves. We can often see reports of students? being cheated or hurt. Society is very complex; students are easily fooled during part-time jobs.

Fourthly, students have less time to devote to school assignments But the part-time job will influence the students? study as it takes them much time and energy. They get too tired to study .They may fall behind or fail in their studies. Putting the cart before the horse is absolutely not the way we agree. And the university time is very important. It?s important to improve our practical ability, but it is better to use more time to learn in the library during the four years? valuable time. We can work after graduation from university. But it?s less likely for us to improve our cultural knowledge when we enter the work world.

Finally, College students can gain some experience, but not all part-time job play the role of exercising practical ability. Most students do the simple things and they can hardly get valuable experience from the job.

This passage is a report of a study on the relationship between part-timeemployment and students’ commitment to studies.
