and连接两个并列句时，意为“和，又”，表示并列，用来连接两个并列的单词，短语，句子。

例如：Our teacher is kind and helpful. He sat down and did his homework.

but表示转折，含义是“但是、却、然而”等。所连接的成分意思相对或相反。
