Today is the anniversary of that afternoon in April a year ago that I first saw the strange and appealing doll ( 玩 具 娃 娃 ) in the window of Abe Sheftel' s toy shop on Third Avenue near Fifteenth Street, just around the corner from my office, where the plate on the door reads: Dr. Samuel Amory. When I was walking down the street the other day, I happened to notice a small brown leather wallet lying on the sidewalk. I picked it up and opened it to see if I could find out the owner's name.
