Unit 1 School life

He prefers a kind of job that requires challenging. He also likes selecting information from experienced persons and developed areas and introducing it to us. He earns our respect. The other day, he attended a donation ceremony after a long preparation. He is pleased and has no regrets.

I was very happy with the school hours in Britain. On the first day, all students went to attend an assembly. During the assembly, the headmaster told us that the best way to earn respect from the school was to work hard and achieve high grades. In our class there were 28 students. This is about the average size for British schools. I found the homework was not heavy, but it was a bit challenging for me at first because all the homework was in English.

My English improved a lot as I used English every day and I also had an extra French class on Tuesday evenings. British food is very different. They eat lots of dessert after their main meal. I was very lucky to experience this different way of life.

Tom is selfish, rude and distant. He often misunderstands other people’s kindness and annoys them. His behavior is abnormal and many people have no patience with him. They can’t tolerate him and forbid him to play with them. His parents are very worried about him and hope that he can learn to get on well with others.

Nowadays, a lot of people are reportedly unwilling to help others. However, Liu Fang acted differently.

Last Sunday afternoon, on her way back to school, Liu Fang came across an old man lying on the ground, seriously hurt in the leg. She immediately stopped, called 120 and practiced first aid. Soon, the ambulance came and took the man to the hospital. When everything was OK, she left for school.

Such is Liu Fang, a helpful, positive and determined person. As responsible citizens, it is our duty to help people in need. Also, if you don’t offer your help when others are in trouble, how can you expect help from others when you are in trouble? Therefore, helping others means helping ourselves in a sense, doesn’t it？

In order to keep slim, Miss Green tried many ways. She went on a diet, bought a lot of equipment and took many weight-loss pills. At the same time, she worked out every day, but all she did seemed useless．Instead, certain pills had side effects and damaged her health, so she suffered a lot. From her experience, we know that we must be more careful when losing weight.

Amy hasn’t heard from her friend Zhou Ling for weeks. So she sent an email to tell her story about weight loss. She said she used to go to the gym three times a week，but now she didn’t work out any more. She took another way to stay slim. Since she was ashamed for her body, especially her preparing to act in a new play, she took weight-loss pills called Fatless, which were quite popular among young women in Canada. The pills worked and two months later she lost 7 kilograms. However, sometimes she felt tired and weak. Her mother felt worried and warned her not to take the pills.

Things changed so quickly. Before long, Amy was in hospital recovering from liver failure. The weight-loss pills contained a harmful chemical that caused her liver to fail. In hospital, Amy followed the doctor’s advice, exercised for at least half an hour every day and ate lots of fruit and vegetables. She thought it wasn’t worth damaging our health to get a slim and attractive figure.

The foggy weather these days has caused widespread concern about air pollution. There are more traffic accidents and more people suffer from breathing problems.

These are some reasons for air pollution in China. First of all, too many cars give off waste gas in the street. Secondly, a lot of fossil fuel like coal, petrol and natural gas is consumed in factories, which produces too much carbon dioxide. Besides, China has many smokers, who are making air pollution even worse.

It is time for us to fight against air pollution. We’d better walk or ride to school to reduce the consumption of fossil fuel. We should plant more trees to absorb poisonous gas in the air and persuade people around us to give up smoking. Let’s take immediate action to fight against air pollution.

这些日子来，雾霾天气引起了人们对空气污染的广泛的关注。交通事故更多了，更多的人患有呼吸问题。
