U.S. Market Packaging
For Bilingual Packaging Standards for The Home Depot Proprietary, Licensed or Exclusive Brands please refer to the appropriate Brand Standard. http://www.marketingsupportonline.com/login.asp. Login: thdBilingual password: brandman9. The following rules must be followed for all non-proprietary branded packaging types. Packaging marketed in the U.S. must be bilingual (English/Spanish). English copy should always come first, followed by the Spanish. Please note that the minimum size requirements for Spanish copy are different for the front and side panels and the back panel of packaging. At a minimum, The Home depot requires English and Spanish copy on all packaging. However, trilingual packaging is permissible if all copy specified below is
translated, it meets the other basic rules for the U.S. market and the translated copy meets the minimum copy size requirements. 美国市场包装

? Copy Size: The Spanish copy should be no less that 60% of the size of the English copy. For example, if the English copy is 20-point type, the Spanish copy must be a minimum of 16-point type. The 60% size is a minimum and Spanish copy larger than 60% is permissible up to 100% of the size of the English copy. The English copy should always appear first in order, before the Spanish copy. These rules should be applied to all copy including features, violators, directions for use, installation instructions, specifications, warranties, warnings and cautions, etc.
(Note for Proprietary items the Spanish copy should be no less that 80% of the size of the English copy)

? Copy Color: Ideally the color of the type used for the English copy should be the dominant color, while the Spanish copy should appear less dominant. This allows the consumer to more quickly identify the appropriate language and screen out the alternate translation. When it is not possible to use an alternate color or a printing screen of the first color for the Spanish copy for production reasons the same color may be implemented for both languages.

In these cases, the U.S. measurement may be used in the translated copy.

These rules apply to all copy, including features, directions for use, installation instructions, etc.

translated, it meets the basic rules for U.S. packaging and it meets the copy size and copy color rules above. The order of languages requirement above does not apply for trilingual packaging.

Canadian Market Packaging 加拿大市场包装
Québec Charter of the French Language (Charter) was amended by the adoption of Bill 115 which significantly increases the potential fines for those who contravene the provisions of the Charter or its regulations. This includes the provisions requiring the use of French in product labels and commercial advertising. The Act also introduces new provisions extending the scope of liability for violations of the Charter to those who assist in the commission of such offences.
