Warming Up, Reading

Teaching Goals:

1. To read and talk about the types of humor and typical actors.. 2. To develop some basic reading skills.

3. To arouse Ss’ interest in learning about humor. 4. To enrich the students’ horizon. Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Leading-in

Tell students some jokes to arouse their interest in topic and tell them the types of the humor. 1. play on words

A: What is your father’s name? B: Happy! A: What is your mother’s name? B: Smile! A: Are you joking? B: No! That’s my sister! I am kidding 2. pun

Policeman: You can’t park here. Driver: Why not? Policeman: Read the sign. Driver: I did. It says, “Fine for parking!” So I parked. 3. a funny poem--limerick

There was a young lady of Niger, Who smiled as she rode on a tiger; They came back from the ride With the lady inside, And the smile on the face of the tiger. Then tell them something about limerick. Then tell students types of humor. Step 2 Pre-reading

Show students two pictures of Charlie Chaplin taken when he was very young and ask them who he is. And then ask them whether they know anything about him .They can have a discussion and then tell the class what they have already known about him.

Step 3 Reading Fast reading :

1. Make a list of different aspects about Charlie Chaplin and ask students to read

the text quickly to find out what are mentioned about him in the text.. 2. Ask them to read the text once again and write down the main idea of each

paragraph.

Para1: the world situation Para2:Charlie’s Childhood Para3: His famous film character Para4: An example of his works Para5:His achievements Careful reading :

Ask students to read the text carefully and find out the detailed facts about Charlie Chaplin. Para1:

1.Why is laughter so important?

2. Up to now, who has done the best?
