Teaching procedures: Step 1 Greetings

Greet the students as usual.

Step 2 Lead in: ask some students the following questions:

Do you have any problems or troubles in your daily life? What are they? Step 3 Presentation

①Section B 2a Groupwork: work in groups of four, discuss the following two questions:

What kind of things do you worry about? Who do you usually go to for help?

②Section B 2b (阅读课文，我能找出文章主旨大意)Look at the statements and then read

the passage quickly. Which statement expresses the main idea of the passage? Then ask a student to check the answers.

a. If people have problems, they should get advice from an expert. b. If people have problems, they should keep them to themselves. c. If people have problems, they should talk to other people. Read the passage again and answer the questions. What did Laura think of the problems and worries in life? What did Laura do once she lost her wallet?

Students finish the tasks by themselves, put up their hands when they

need help, check the answers one by one, and then read the passage together.

⑤Section B 2e Ask some students the following questions. Take notes of their answers. What problems do you have with schoolwork? Who do you talk to about these problems and why? Who else can you get advice from？

Do you always tell your parents about your problems? Why or why not? Do you ever give advice to your friends about their problems? What

⑥summary: Problems and worries are normal in life. If you have problems, you should

talk to other people you trust. It is best not to run away from our problems. We should try to solve them. You are half way to solving a problem just by talking to someone about it.

Step 4 Explain and Extension

①If people have problems, they should keep them to themselves.

如果人们又麻烦，他们应该把这些烦恼留给自己/保守秘密。

keep: 在此处意为“保留，保存”keep? to oneself 不向他人诉说，保守秘密；

Maria is shy and she always keeps her worries to herself. 玛利亚很内向，总是把烦恼埋在心底

②She just keep thinking, “If I tell my parents, ?”

她一直在想：“如果我告诉我的父母的话,?”

在此句中，keep表示“（使?）保持（某种状态或关系）；一直??，后面接动词

时，该动词要用-ing的形式，形成keep doing…结构。

③Unless we talk to someone, we’ll certainly feel worse.

如果我们不向别人倾诉，我们必定会感觉更糟。 unless:连词，意为“除非，如果不”，在句中引导条件状语从句。

I won’t go to the party unless Gina invites me.我将不去参加聚会，除非吉娜邀请我。

④If I tell my parents, they’ll be angry. 如果我告诉我的父母，他们将会很生气。

angry: 形容词，“生气的，发怒的”。be angry with sb. “生某人的气”， be angry

at/about sth. “因某事而生气”。

If you don’t finish the work, Mr. Black will be angry with you.

如果你不完成这项工作，布莱克先生将会生的你气。

My mother is angry at my mistake. 我妈妈因我的错误而生气。 ⑤Robert Hunt advises students about the common problems. 罗伯特·亨特就一些常见的问题给了学生们建议。

advise:动词，“建议，劝告”。其名词形式为：advice(不可数) advise sb. on/about sth. 就…问题给某人建议

advise sb. to do sth. 建议/劝告某人做某事

⑥It is best not to run away from our problems.最好不要逃避我们的问题. It is best (not) to do sth. 最好（不）做某事.

⑦He thinks the first step is to find someone you trust to talk to. 他认为第一步是找一个我们信任的人倾诉。

这是一个主从复合句，既有宾语从句，又有定语从句。其中“the first step is to find

someone you trust to talk to”是宾语从句，作动词thinks 的宾语。而 “you trust”又是一个定语从句，修饰先行词someone.动词不定式to talk to也作定语，修饰someone.

⑧In English, we say that sharing a problem is like cutting it in half. 在英语中，我们说与人分担一个烦恼就像把烦恼分成两半。 share: 动词，“分享、分担”。share sth. with sb. 与某某一起分享? cut …in half: 把…切成两半；把…一分为二。 in half:分成两半

⑨So you’re halfway to solving a problem just by talking to someone about it! 因此，你只要和别人聊聊这个问题，你就已经解决了问题的一半。 be halfway to…表示“完成了或做了事情的一部分”，其中halfway后面的to是介词，

后加动词的-ing形式。

如：We are still only halfway to finishing the job. 我们才仅仅完成了工作的一部分。 by: 表示方式，相当于汉语“通过?办法，使用?方式”的意思。 如：We can practice and learn English by singing English songs. 我们可以通过唱英文歌曲来学、练英语。 Step 5 Summary
