What is Small-sided Soccer?
Small-sided Soccer starts with games of 3-on-3 from the youngest participants and
progresses to 4-on-4, 7-on-7, 11-on-11, in a graduated manner for the older groups. Our
school’s training course will give kids a better chance to take part in the game and get
excited about the game of soccer. The small-sided approach gives each child more
individualized attention so they can each improve their skills. And, it’s FUN!

Can I coach?
Of course! Our training course is always looking for volunteer coaches. We will provide coaches with plans for activities and training, and help set up the small-sided fields.
It’s a great opportunity to get involved with kids and help develop their love for sports.
How can I volunteer in other ways?
It’s your club and you are welcome to volunteer! There are volunteer opportunities
with programs, fields, publicity, facilities, uniforms, website development and the board,
to name a few. Let us know how you’d like to help—and we’ll put you to work!
Do parents stay?
Yes. Parents are strongly encouraged to stay and support their children and the club.
The club is a volunteer-run organization. Parents and athletes are encouraged to help with
clean-up and set-up activities.

PTSD(创伤后应激障碍) is sadly a common affliction(折磨) for many soldiers who have witnessed conflict, an invisible wound that continues to cause incredible suffering long after the guns have fallen silent.
“A lot of us come home without realizing we are bringing the war home with us,” said Josh Marino, a veteran (退伍兵) of the Iraq war who suffered the effects of PTSD of suicide.
“I didn’t want to deal with it anymore,” Marino said. He wrote a goodbye note, grabbed a knife and went outside for a final cigarette in the rain. But then, from the deepest depth of despair came hope. Meowing out of the bushes next to him came a stray black and white kitten (小猫) which, according to Marino, “just walked up and started rubbing up against my leg and let me pet him. I came to life again and I broke down crying. I burst into tears.”
From this accidental encounter everything changed. Marino found a new purpose in life through the friendly cat, who he named Scout, and who he credits with saving his life. “I stopped thinking about all my problems, and started thinking about all his problems, and what I could do to help him,” Marino said. The bond between them was instant, but that wasn’t the end of the story.
Marino has made a video of his and Scout’s remarkable story of healing and heartbreak which you can watch on the Internet. The story is dedicated to showing how animals can help humans through tough times, as well as humans can help them. It is a beautiful story that is sure to tug at your heart strings, showing just how powerful the bond between humans and animals can be. We love it, and we hope you do too!

Everyone has their favourite scenes and characters in Harry Potter books and films. One of the most memorable scenes for many came early on in the series. In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the owls began to send letters to Harry inviting him to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Owls were then mentioned frequently in the books and created amazing images in the films.
Everyone around the world loves the Harry Potter series. But if there has been one bad result of J.K. Rowling’s creative gifts, it is the craze that has swept through many countries for owning an owl. Many experts suggest that because Harry Potter fans would like to own their own owl, there is a strong chance that owls may soon start to die out.
There are over 200 different species of owl. They are nocturnal birds, which means they are awake at night, usually hunting. They have large round eyes that face forwards on their flat faces. Owls also like to be on their own, unless it is the mating season.
Indonesia is one of the main countries that are now selling owls to young and old Harry Potter fans. There are many bird markets throughout the country, with the largest being Pramuka in Indonesia’s capital city, Jakarta. Birds are Indonesia’s most popular pet, with about 20 percent of all homes keeping at least one. It is thought that about 13,000 owls are sold each year in Indonesia’s bird markets. They cost between $10 and $30. This is affordable for most families where the parents work. Most of the owls have been taken from the wild and do not live for very long once they have been caught.
Not everyone is happy about the situation, including the Harry Potter author, J.K. Rowling. She said, “If anybody has been influenced by my books, to think an owl would be happiest shut in a small cage and kept in a house, I would like to take this opportunity to say as forcefully as I can, ‘you are wrong!’ ”

Wolves strike fear into the hearts of many species, humans included. Our fear of them has brought them to the edge of dying out, as we have cruelly killed them as competitors and trouble-makers. But researchers are discovering that the very fear they put into prey(被捕食者) species is exactly what helps make ecosystems(生态) healthy.
Yellowstone National Park is a typical example of just how wolves can help repair an ecosystem. An October 2018 study analyzed 40 years of research on large animals inside the park.
“Yellowstone has benefited from the reintroduction of wolves in ways that we did not anticipate, especially the complexity of biological interactions(互动) in the park,” explained Mark Boyce, a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. “We were really surprised at that and we’d never have seen these responses if the park hadn’t adopted ecological-process management — allowing natural ecological processes to take place with least human intervention.”
After the wolves were re-introduced at Yellowstone, willow and cottonwood trees increased in number. The population of bears and bison also rose and what was once a ruling deer-wolf interaction is now more diverse.
To learn more about just how wolves are beneficial, a short documentary from Quest explains how the presence of wolves influences the behavior of deer, which eventually makes entire ecosystems more biologically diverse and healthy. In this documentary, biologist Aaron Wirsing explored why wolves and other top predators (捕食者) were needed for diverse ecosystems to develop. Using a simple video camera, Wirsing is gaining a unique view point on predator-prey relationships and changing the way we think about wolves.
The research is one more piece of evidence for why protecting these top predators is important not just for wolves as a species, but for hundreds of species at every level of an ecosystem. The fear they bring along may be the very angle that helps save them from dying out.
