Texas A&M Galveston Drofessor Irwin Horwitz would like to fail his entire class—close to three dozen students in total——but the school is blocking him from doing so.

Horwitz announced in emails last week to administrators at the Galveston campus and to his business management class that he would no longer teach the course and would fail the entire class because“None of you?deserve to pass,or graduate”,according to Inside Higher Ed.

The professor said the class was behaving so badly that he couldn’t continue teaching the course for the rest of the school term, and now a department head has taken over.

Horwitz said the class was so bad he needed security guards in the room.

“Since teaching this course,I have caught and seen cheating, been told to‘cool down’,‘get out of my space,’‘go back and teach,’been called a‘fool’to my face, found one student cheat by signing in for another, one student not showing up but claiming he did, listened to many hurtful and untrue remarks about myself and others, been caught between fights between students,”Horwitz wrote in an email, published by Inside Higher Ed.

Texas A&M Vice President of the university said none of the students have failed the class though, because“the only reason a student would fail is that he or she has not performed the expectations for that particular course.”The university will, however, look into Horwitz’ accusation about student misbehavior.

“I have nothing left,”Horwitz told a journalist, blaming the school for not giving him a fair treatment by punishing those students for their bad manners.“I put my neck on the line for what I thought was the right thing to do.” 21.What did Horwitz actually do? A.He failed the whole class. B.He turned to the police for help. C.He stopped giving lessons to the class. D.He made the whole class apologize to him.

22.According to the vice president a student may fail when he_______. A.can’t meet the demands of a course C.doesn’t respect the teacher in class 23.What can we learn from the text? A.The students will be dismissed finally. B.Horwitz will quit his job in the university. C.The students had no interest in learning. D.Horwitz didn’t get on well with the students.

The world’s largest travel website,TripAdvisor, released a survey on female travel on April 9.It revealed that 43 percent of Chinese women have holidayed alone, slightly higher than the global average of 41 percent.

The survey covered 10 countries and regions, including China, the US,the UK,Germany,France,Italy and Spain, and aimed to explore women’s travel habits especially with regards to solo(单独的)travelling.According to the survey, when choosing hotels,85 percent of Chinese women will compare prices on different travel websites, much higher than the world average of 57 percent.However,92 percent of women around the world regard online hotel reviews as an important reference while 71 percent of Chinese female travelers do so,which demonstrates that global women travelers attach greater importance to hotel reviews to avoid unsatisfactory accommodation experiences. In contrast, though Chinese women do also check the ratings, they still prefer to be guided by lower prices.

Interestingly,84 percent of Chinese women identified trying local food as one of the necessary activities when traveling alone, higher than the global average of 62 percent.Plus,76 percent of Chinese women and 73 percent of global females will take part in cultural and scenic activities.Surprisingly, only 30 percent of Chinese women list shopping as an indispensable must-do on their solo travel trips, lower than the average of 43 percent.
