5、关系代词which

（1）、which 关系代词在从句中可以做主语或是宾语，其先行词是指事物的名词或者是代词。做宾语在非正式文体可以省略。

I found some photos of interesting places which were not too far away from Chengdu. Yesterday Emily was wearing the new dress (which) I gave her. （2）、关系代词which可以引导非限定性定语从句。 Dinner starts with a small dish, which is often called a starter. Now I live in a building ,which was built last year.

（3）、关系代词which在所引导的定语从句中，如果做介词的宾语，该介词也可以前置到which前，但是which不能省略。

I will remember the day on which I met him.

He has gone back to the place in which he lived in his childhood . 6、介词前置引导定语从句的情形

(1)、介词前置前到关系词来引导定语从句的形式主要是两种，当先行词指事物时，要 使用“介词+which”来引导定语从句；当关系词指人时，要使用”介词+whom ”来引导定语从句。“介词＋关系代词“可以引导限制性定语从句，也可以引导非限制性定语从句。 I will remember the day on which I met him.

from where为“介词＋关系副词“结构，但也可以引导定语从句（不常用）。例如： We stood at the top of the hill, from where we can see the town.. （2）、关系代词前介词的确定

I. 根据从句中动词与先行词的逻辑关系，所表达的意思确定。 Is that the newspaper for which you often write articles? The gas without which we can not live is called oxygen. II. 根据从句中动词或形容词的习惯搭配，如：

Can you explain to me how to use these idioms about which I’m sure. Mr. Smith bought a new house on which he spent all his money. III. 根据先行词与介词的搭配习惯，请体会： 1949 was the year in which the P.R.C. was founded.

There was no way in which it could be bought back to the earth. ( in this way)

IV. 非限制性定与从句中，要表示先行词的一部分时，可用“数词/代词 + of + 关系代词”的结构，如：

e.g. There are 50 students in our class, two---thirds of whom have been to Beijing.

V. 要注意如果定语从句中的介词属于固定搭配，那么这个介词就不能前置。listen to, look at, depend on, pay attention to, take care of…… Is this the watch that you are looking for? The old man whom I am looking after is better . （3）“介词+关系代词”引导定语从句的形式

一、the ＋名词＋of which／whom 这种结构可以与whose引导的非限定性定语从句互换。 例如： The boy，the father of whom died，is in our class． The boy，whose father died，is in our class．

二、不定代词some ／any ／all等或基数词＋of which ／whom I bought many books yesterday，some of which are novels． He has three sons，all（two）of whom are college students． 三、形容词的最高级＋of which ／ whom.

The team is made up of ten doctors，the youngest of whom is Xiao Wang． There are many buildings in our school，the newest of which is this one 四、含有of的短语介词＋which构成的非限定性定语从句

They walked into a big room，in the middle of which there was only a bed． We study in this building，at the back of which there is a big garden．

注意：１． 含有介词的短语动词一般不拆开，介词仍放在短语动词的后面。如：look for, look after, take care of 等。

This is the watch (which / that) I am looking for. (正) 这是我正在找的手表。

This is the watch for which I am looking . (误)

The babies (whom / who / that) the nurse is looking after are very healthy. (正) 那个保姆照看的小宝宝们都很健康。

The babies after whom the nurse is looking are very healthy. （误）
