This love of reading is something that doesn’t come naturally or easily to everyone. Learning to read can be an intimidating task. Students may become shy. or reluctant(不情愿的)to read when they lack confidence in their reading skills. The reality is that students learn to read at different rates. Not everyone develops the skills at the same time. However, everyone should be practicing the skills to become better readers. What do you do when students don’t want to read?

Reluctant readers can be seen at many different ages and reading levels. English learners or students, who have difficulty with their speech, may lack confidence that other readers have developed over time. Creating reading games or challenges can help students become more interested in participating in reading. Reading books for different ages can help students see reading as more fun overall. More teenagers are posting clear pictures of themselves on the Internet-unaware they can end up on dangerous networks.

A new report into online child protection has found more teenagers are posting explicit photographs of themselves on the Internet. The details released by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) highlight an increasing trend of risque (有伤风化) images that young people have taken of themselves appearing on the web.

Protection experts say many do not realise the dangers when they are exposing themselves.

Jim Gamble, Chief Executive of CEOP Centre and ACPO lead for Child Protection, said. “The scale and nature of reports received show an ongoing need to educate and inform young people about the risk of posting inappropriate images of themselves online. Unfortunately we have seen cases where these photos and videos have ended up in the wrong hands of those collecting child abuse images.”

CEOP is advertising on Facebook to raise awareness of the dangers involved. Between April 2009 and March 2010 CEOP received over 6,000 reports about incidents of potential child abuse or online training, nearly 900 more than the previous year.

A quarter of all reports related to online training, 434 involved children being encouraged to perform a sexual act online, while another 135 involved someone attempting to meet a child in real life

Most incidents were, through the ClickCEOP button, put on websites used by children, to make it easier to report problems.

CEOP has now launched a two-week advertising campaign on Facebook to raise awareness of the dangers of uploading explicit images online.

Humans moving to Mars in the future will not go hungry as a new study by a NASA scientist reveals that the red planet may be beneficial to growing potatoes.

The study was conducted by NASA scientist Chris McKay and was sponsored by the International Potato Center. McKay’s study refers to the possibility of growing potatoes on Mars by studying the soil from the Pampas de La Joya desert. The experiment was conducted by the University of Engineering and Technology in Peru.

According to the study, the Peruvian desert’s soil has similar properties to the soil on the Red Planet. McKay assumes that if potatoes can grow in the Pampas de La Joya environment, then it can grow on Martian soil too. The recent experiment will not only benefit future Mars explorations but also our technological and biological future. Growing potatoes in extreme environments can mainly solve the lack of food astronauts experience when in space.

The International Potato Center detailed over 4,000 potato varieties that can be suitable candidates to be grown on Mars. McKay’s study reveals that it may even be possible to grow potatoes by hydroponics(水栽培)and aeroponics (空气种植法).These technologies will allow nutrients to be delivered by water and air directly to plants without the need for soil.

The new discovery can also be a way to solve hunger on Earth. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization has reported climate change as a major threat to progress in various fields, but especially to food safety. More than 795 million people are estimated to go hungry worldwide. The potential of potatoes growing in harsh and warm climates is a good indication that the crop may, in fact, be a solution not only to Martian environment but that of Earth as well.

32. When Mckay was doing his research, . A. he studied the soil taken back from Mars B. he was supported by an organization C. he tried to grow potatoes in his lab D. he spent a lot of time in the Peruvian desert

33. What is the main benefit if the experiment is a success? A. Helping explore outer space successfully. B. Reducing the population on the earth. C. Solving the world’s hunger problem. D. Providing fresh food to astronauts.

34. What can be inferred from the fourth paragraph? A. Hydroponics and aeroponics will work well on Mars. B. Potatoes need rather a small amount of nutrients. C. The International Potato Center acts very activity. D. Potato has the most kinds among vegetables. 35. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Potatoes May Grow on Mars B. Use Circumstances on Mars C. Potatoes Have a New Home D. Find Ways to Plant Potatoes
