Do kids really need to go to school to learn? For most people it is obvious that school is the right place where real learning takes place, and for them real learning takes place.

The social theorist Ivan Illich believes the idea that learning is the result of teaching is ridiculous. Most learning happens without the person being taught consciously. We learn to speak, to think, to walk and to do many things without teachers. People who learn a second language well are much more likely to develop better because of interests outside the classroom-interests in movies, music, magazines, foreign friends, games or computers which give these people the motivation that keeps them learning.

Ivan Illich also says,“an academic education favors only the minority of students who want to go to university. As for the majority, their needs and interests and talents are not provided by an educational system.”

On the other hand, most people agree that school teaches everyone a valuable lesson. It teaches kids that life must be organized. It helps students to develop good habits, to behave in public, to follow certain rules, which is important for a comfortable life for everyone. School also helps them to make friends, work in a team and learn to help others to build up social relations, so that they will acquire the habits and attitudes needed by the future public life.

In addition, there are exams during the pupils’ study, and the real importance of exams is not only to check your subject but also to encourage you to make progress step by step. If you get a good grade, it means you can go to a better school. So every successful exam opens more doors in life for the students. If you fail in exams, school offers the pupils an instruction in their failure to make them stronger, which is beneficial to their future life.

Undoubtedly schools are necessity in our modern and highly organized society. It is a nice idea that education takes place in groups, which is provided by professional teachers. But educational system needs to be up-to-date so that the experience of school is much more positive for all students. 43.According to Ivan Illich, _______.

In the old days, you had to go looking for horrible news. Now, you can just wake up and glance at any social media site, and a lot of it will be waiting for you. That’s where Google Chrome extension Sadblock comes in. It helps you out by cleaning up sad, begative, and sometimes just plain annoying news from your social media feeds.

Sadblock will help you “take back control of your social feeds,” according to the extension’s website. It does this by allowing you to block certain types of posts from your social media. “Current categories include sad stories, political posts, climate change posts, and those that include common negative words,” the site says. You can download Sadblock for free from the Google Chrome Web Store.

The extension allows you to block these various kinds of content, and its multi-site approach appears to be different from other blockers, most of which exist for one service only and require you to add in your own blacklisted keywords. For example, Tumblr Savior allows users to filter(过滤)their Tumblr feed, but users must manually add words and tags they want to see blocked, like “death” or “violent.” Twitter application TweetDeck has a mute(静音) function, but also requires you to manually input words, phrases, and links you want banned from your feed.

Sadblock’s range allows you to block upsetting political content, or videos of abused animals, or stories about certain celebrities. At Sadblock we trust you already know the planet is struggling and that people all around the world are dying in terrible ways. Basically, Sadblock is intended to help people relax and take a mental relief away from the constant flow of horrible information. It’s not intended to help people ignore reality.

Psychologist Dr. Graham Davey told Huffington Post that “Negative news can significantly change an individual’s mood - especially if there is a tendency in the news broadcasts to stress suffering . Viewing negative news means that you’re likely to see your own personal worries as more threatening and severe, and when you do start worrying about them, you’re more likely to find your worry difficult to control”.

Sadblock does reduce what you see that’s troubling, but also unexpectedly deletes harmless posts and leaves a lot of distressing ones. And though the app is imperfect, it’s important to recognize that Sadblock is still an incredibly useful tool for people who need to continue to engage with social media and want to protect their mental health while doing so.

47. Which of the following posts is probably blocked by Sadblock? A. Beijing Kindergarten Accused of Child Abuse. B. Tips to Train Your Pet.

C. Cyclist Broke the World Record.

6

D. The Value of Giving.

48. What can we learn about Sadblock in paragraph 3?

A. It requires users to add their own blacklisted keywords. B. It is designed for one service only.

C. It can stop various kinds of content on different websites. D. It has a mute function and multi-site approach.

49. The underlined word “distressing” in the last paragraph means _______. A. amusing B. pleasant C. upset D. interesting 50. What is the purpose of the passage?

A. To comment the news. B. To compare some websites. C. To sell some products. D. To introduce a software.

第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)

根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

Bullying

Many people think of bullying as one child pushing or hitting another, but bullying is not only physical. When I was in junior school, the girls in my class would make fun of me or ask questions designed to embarrass me. Once a girl looked at me and announced loudly, “I don’t want to sit next to her!” Then they talked and laughed. 51

Bullying is a widespread problem in schools, and some adults even have to deal with it at work. But anyone can take action to stop it.

Be kind

You may not think of yourself as a bully, but do you make jokes at others’ expense? If the other person isn’t laughing, your words or actions may hurt more than you think.

Many bullies were once victims of bullying or faced other difficult experiences and now bully others to feel powerful. 52 Being kind despite your experience will make you truly powerful.

Speak up

If you notice one person bullying another, please tell them to stop. Many bullies are motivated by a desire to look cool. If you tell them you are not impressed, they’ll stop. 53 Ask for help

If you’re being bullied, don’t try to face it alone, but ask a parent or other trusted adult for help. Similarly, in places where bullying happens, stay close to a friend since bullies often target people who is alone.

54

When you’re being bullied, you can also walk away calmly. Leaving will keep you safe, and leave them there alone. If you don’t seem frightened or upset, the bully may lose interest in you.

55 The disgusting things bullies say reflect who they are, not who you are. You are valuable for who you are, and nothing anyone says or does can change that. And when you meet others who are weaker than you, remember that they are valuable, too.

A. It can also happen travelling to or from school, in the youth’s neighborhood, or on the Internet. B. Finally, remember that what is happening is not your fault. C. If they don’t, walk away, and tell an adult about the incident.

7

D. Ignore it

E. If that’s you, don’t respond by hurting others, but overcome your pain by treating others well. F. Fight against

G. Their comments didn’t hurt me physically, but they did make me miserable.
