4. The differences between English and Chinese news headlines

4.1 Vocabulary differences

4.2 Grammar differences

The differences between English and Chinese title in grammar mainly display in

tense, voice, ellipsis and punctuation. Because of the particularity of the English title. English news headlines has its unique characteristics of tense, commonly used the present tense to show the past events, so, it will not use the time words like “last week”, “yesterday”, “last night” in the English title. But the tense of Chinese can get performance through the time words. 5 Conclusion

This paper analyze the features of English title from four pares: lexical, grammar, rhetoric, form characteristics. We have a general idea of the English news headlines, and if we know more features about the title we can understand it better, help us know much about the content. The thesis, also introduce some skills about how to translate the English news headlines, we can agile using these methods in the practical and get a vivid translation effect.

From the above mentioned, the translator must full grasp the content, color and meaning of the original article, make degree creation to the title and not limited to the original title. Using the appropriate translation skills and means, like literal translation, free translation, etc. And strive to do the maximun equivalent translation with the original title, even better than the original at a level. So, if you want a good translation of the title, you must have a thorough understanding of the connotation for the original. Good at the comparative to the characteristics of the two language, and take the advantages of Chinese is also very important.

In short, the English news study and translation can help English learners know much about the political, economic, cultural and other aspectes of information for western countries, help learners to study contemporary English.
