何研究宏观因素对即将恋爱、正在恋爱中的青少年的影响, 是一个值得探讨的问题。其次, 家庭、同伴关系对恋爱关系的影响研究得较多, 它们对恋爱关系的作用有的可能是叠加的, 有的可能是互补的, 或者有的可能是抵消的, 因此未来需要进一步的研究弄清楚两者对青少年恋爱关系不同品质的具体作用。再者, 现存研究考察了同性友谊对青少年恋爱关系的影响, 未来需要进一步研究异性友谊对青少年恋爱关系的影响。另外, 青少年的恋爱关系持续时间不长, 因此个体在整个青少年时期可能有多次恋爱。研究显示, 他们自我报告的与不同恋人的恋爱关系的品质有中等程度的一致性(Connolly, Furman, & Konarski, 2000)。恋爱关系认知表征研究取向中的关系观网络已经描绘出了不同人际关系间连续性的机制, 但是以往恋爱关系如何影响当前恋爱关系, 其解释机制需要进一步的研究来明确。最后, 本文的青少年恋爱关系特指青少年异性恋爱关系, 而青少年同性恋爱关系与异性恋爱关系的异同, 是一个值得研究的主题, 可能有助于理解恋爱关系的本质。
