Will Eating Less Help You Live Longer?

The researchers controlled what the second group ate. Their food had 35 percent fewer calories (卡路里) than the first group of mice. Price said the second group of mice was more 17 and had fewer diseases. He and his team found that 18 calories slowed aging.
The researchers found that fewer calories slow down cells? ribosomes (核糖体). Price explained that ribosomes are used to make important proteins (蛋白质). But with fewer calories, ribosomes slow down. This gives ribosomes more time to 19 themselves. Price used cars to explain this as an example. “Like a car, a ribosome isn?t a simple 20 . It needs repairs to change the broken parts. When the glass of the car is broken,” he explained, “you don?t need to throw the 21 car away and buy a new one. It costs less to change the glass.” Price said that because of this, it is 22 to break a whole ribosome when it starts to break down. “Instead, repairing single part of the ribosome makes ribosomes continue producing high quality proteins. This top quality production keeps cells and the whole 23 working well,” he added.
Earlier studies have shown a connection between calorie reduction and slowed aging. However, this is first to show how the ribosomes can 24 aging. Price said the findings help to explain 25 exactly people become older. And this may help us make more wise decisions about what we eat.

The British government has started a £10 million Mandarin Excellence (普通话优秀)Program. The program will see over 5,000 British students towards fluency (流利) in Mandarin Chinese by 2020.
The program is led by local schools and supported by University College London. So far, 14 schools have taken part in the program. Hundreds of secondary school students in England have taken lessons in Mandarin Chinese. Over the next three years, they will spend eight hours studying Mandarin Chinese every week.
Nick Gibb is an officer of the British government. He said a high level of fluency in Mandarin Chinese would become more and more important. “Language skills are important for jobs and life. Mandarin Chinese is spoken by the largest number of people in the world. It is also one of the languages that matters the most to our country?s future. If the United Kingdom wants to remain competitive (竞争的) in the world,we do need far more of our young people leaving school with a good command (精通)of Mandarin Chinese,” Gibb added. “We hope that our young people could be given the chance to study the language. We want them to be fluent in both spoken and written Mandarin. The Mandarin Excellence Program will help us do this. It will not only open the students? eyes, but also give them a great advantage when they enter the world of work.”
British kids, in fact, are not alone. In America, about 200,000 students are studying Mandarin Chinese. It is believed that 800,000 more will join them over the next couple of years. 31. The main supporter of the Mandarin Excellence Program is________. A. the American government
