One Sunday, Mark decided to go sailing in his boat with his friend Dan, but Dan happened to be away. Dan’s brother John offered to go instead though he did not know anything about sailing. Mark agreed and they set out to sea.

Soon they found themselves in a thick fog. Mark was sure they would be hit by a big ship. Fortunately he saw a large buoy (浮标) through the fog and decide to tie the boat to it for safety. An old man lived in the country with his old wife. They never went to town. But one day the old man needed to go to town. “Darling,” he said to his old wife.” I need some new clothes. While the man was fitting the glass, the woman returned the ball to the boy. John was happy and left quickly. After the man had finished his work, he said, “Please pay me five dollars for it, madam.” “What?” the woman said in surprise. “Your son has broken my window. And why must I pay for it?” “My son?” the man began to laugh. “Don’t you know who your son’s father is?”
