One possible version:

From the charts, we can see a dramatically increasing trend of middle school students studying in the USA from 2003 to 2016, accounting for almost half of Chinese students in the USA.

There are many factors accounting for this phenomenon. Firstly, many parents choose to send their children abroad just to relieve their heavy academic pressure. Besides, many parents can afford the fees for tuition and board. They think studying abroad can not only broaden their horizons, but also acquire more advanced knowledge and skills.

As for me, a senior middle school student, I prefer to study in China. For one thing, the educational level in China has improved, so there is no need to study abroad to obtain high-quality education. For another, the booming Internet makes online lessons and lectures easily accessible, increasing our exposure to various information and knowledge. Therefore, I hold firm that I can learn what I want in China.

(For me, I’d like to go to America for further study. Yale University is my ideal one where most advanced knowledge sparks and world-famous experts and professors get together there. Besides, American free lifestyle also attracts me a lot for I really hate being restricted by so many rules. So I’ll work hard to be admitted to my ideal university.)

听力原文: Text 1

M: I’m afraid you’ve been working too hard. You should take a vacation. W: Tell that to the pile of papers on my desk!

Text 2

M: Hi, Mag. May I use your telephone?

W: Yes. Be my guest as long as it’s a local call.

Text 3

W: Do you know that Mark turned down that job offered by a travel agency?

M: Yeah, the hours were convenient but he wouldn’t have been able to make ends meet.

Text 4

W: How are you getting along with your research paper?

M: I’ve finished all my research, but I haven’t been able to organize it, so I haven’t begun the paper

yet.

Text 5

W: Steve asked if he could take a ride with us to the beach.

M: Well, I will see whether or not we’ll have room. It’s still not clear.

Text 6

W: Hi, I would like to purchase this book. M: Can I have your card, please?

W: Card? Oh...the book card. I don’t have it with me right now. I left it at home. But I think you can identify me with my phone number, right? My phone number is 6838585, and my name is registered as Julie.

M: Very good, Miss. Please wait a moment. Um...I’m sorry, Julie, but my computer indicates that the last time you were in our store, we allowed you to take two textbooks that were required for your biology class, under the condition that we would send you a bill through the mail and that you would pay it by the due date. You have missed that due date, and until you pay the fee, I cannot let you purchase another item.

Text 7

M: You said you wanted to see me right away. What seems to be the problem?

W: Well, I’ve been experiencing some stomach problems since last week that just won’t go away. M: Did you introduce anything new into your diet that may have upset your system?

W: I’ve been eating a lot of fruits and vegetables as usual, and I try to stay away from red meat and

fatty foods. My sister recommended that I drink more milk to keep my bones strong, so I’ve been doing that.

M: Do you usually drink a lot of milk?

W: No, very rarely. I’ve been drinking soy milk for years, though. M: I suspect that’s your problem. Your body is not used to dairy.

W: I thought I might have a virus or something terrible. Are you sure you don’t want to do any tests?

M: I’m fairly confident about this. Just cut out the milk and see how you feel in a couple days. Rather

than come into the clinic, you can just give me a call.

Text 8

W: Mr. Sharp, thank you for giving me this interview! So, my first question is \life?\

M: Am I happy? You know you are the first person to have asked me this question directly. The others dared not because they were afraid I might say \could make up stories about me. W: What kind of stories?

M: \Sharp, author of over 100 historical novels, lives in a lonely house 30 miles away from Sydney. But is he happy?\

W: Is that why you have refused many interviews?

M: I’m tired of being told that I must be unhappy because I’m rich and successful. I’m not unhappy! W: Understood! And...I’m wondering if you follow a similar pattern of writing? M: I know what you mean. Do I write similar stories? I say no. W: So how do you create your heroes?

M: My heroes live. They think for themselves. All their stories are drawn from life, my life, my friends’ lives, including my friends in many books. W: Sounds good to me!

Text 9

M: Before I go to work, I like to get my blood flowing a little bit. I usually get on the running machine and do a little weightlifting. It helps reduce my stress levels.

W: I’m always in such a rush to get to the office. I usually wait until I’m off work to go to the gym. But I

definitely need it so that I can relax. Which one do you go to?

M: I used to go to the 24-Hour Fitness downtown, but I decided to buy my own equipment so I can

avoid the crowds. On the weekends, I try to go hiking as much as possible.

W: I like to take it easy on my days off. So, I assume you’re not very active at your job?

M: I’m stuck in my chair most of the day, but my hand gets quite a workout from filling out so many

documents! How about you?

W: I’m also at my desk all day, but I have one of those high ones that allow you to work upright. They

say sitting for too long has negative health consequences. M: That’s a great idea. Do you like doing it that way?

W: Well, my work is usually so boring that it keeps me from falling asleep.

Text 10

I didn’t get a smartphone for a long time because I thought they were too expensive. And my old phone was fine for making phone calls and sending text messages. But I saw everyone else with their cool-looking phones and felt a little jealous. When I bought my first smart phone, I was really surprised at how reasonable the cost was. There was a lot to pay right away, but the monthly bill turned out to be similar to that of my old phone. I never did a lot on the Internet before, but with my smartphone, I’m entertained every day. I also love being able to check my email and use the map when I am driving. I haven’t really gotten into other apps, though. And I seldom use it to chat with my friends. The main thing I like better is the sound quality. With my old phone, it was really hard to hear people on the other end of the line, but my smartphone is much clearer. However, not everything is
