The economy nowadays is unstable. There are a lot of shifting patterns in how world leaders handle their current economic status.

The Newtown massacre has stamped a lot of questions in the current fire arm legislation. There are a lot of massacres that happened over the years and many wonder about the things that can be done to solve the problem. According to Malcolm, people seek for stricter fire arm regulations. However, it is just not that easy. One has to take into account its impact in the economy. If a country leader bans firearms, he will lose the market in that area. This is something that many world leaders will not dive in. These people should also think about what other countries have done. According to Malcolm, Australia passed a National firearms agreement prohibiting the use of semiautomatic rifles and shotguns to be used by people with only a “good reason”. What is this “good reason” that seems to narrow as time goes by? Self defense by the start of 1969 was not considered as a good reason, said by Malcolm.

Massacres have spread like wildfire during the past few years. It is something that people cannot control. The government’s way of handling the situation is not enough. The killer in Newtown is just one of those mentally challenged individuals who did a killing spree wherever they are located. Most of them seem to target schools like the one that happened in March 1996 according to Malcolm. Some laws in certain countries are too strict that they punish law abiding citizens. For example, Danny Nightingale and Paul Clark were imprisoned just by possession of fire arms according to Malcolm. They never committed any murderous acts. It is just by certain circumstances that they were in possession of firearms. Good thing, they were

released after a public outcry.

In other news, Narendra Modi was elected as the chief minister for the fourth time in the Indian State of Gujarat according to Dhume. It means a lot of people like his policies. He promises to bring business into the state. His policies cater to those investors and private sectors that can create jobs for people and acquire wealth using this process. He might seem like an “awkward choice for Indian top job”, according to Dhume but he will likely continue his term and continue to be reelected. The choice of the people is clear. They want economic reforms and long term growth to happen to the state rather than short term goals. It might seem like a hard job but he will be able to do it as long as his supporters got his back. His policies are important to the people. There is an effect to their lives which is why he continuously serves the people. Economy is important to the people of Gujarat. He is willing to do reforms that will help private sectors to fire and hire people according to Dhume.

Even though Singh piloted the economic liberalization of India when he became a

finance minister in 1991, he was not able to sustain it. Sonia Gandhi has the real power and prioritized redistribution according to Dhume. Since Singh didn’t really have the power, his reform of cutting subsidies and foreign investors didn’t make a major impact to the people. Corruption overtook the government and he was left with relying on freebies for the 2014 elections according to Dhume. The brutal sexual assault to a young student doesn’t help either according to Dhume. It is clear here that in order for the people to actually feel the effect of reforms that Singh initiated in New Delhi, he must remove corruption in the government. He must also appease the people

and apologize for the brutal sexual assault that he had done. There had been a major backlash and it definitely will not be in favor to him in the 2014 elections.

There are still many harsh chief ministers that are against Mr. Modi’s policies

even if he welcomes investors to the state of Gujarat. Some states like Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, according to Dhume, have grown despite clean and efficient government. The leaders of these states believe that economic reforms are not the solution to develop. Their state is not focused on economy but they still bloom. There are many things that might influence a state to grow. It is not just about the government and what it can do. People living in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra might be doing something to uplift their status in life. They might not be relying on the prime minister to fix the problems.

What can world leaders do to control the economy and stop the violence in their

countries? Are their economic reforms enough for the people? There are many questions that are in the minds of people. Reforms are important because of its impact to a country. However is it beneficial to those involved?
