Early ways of sending information were slow and unsafe. The first modern way of communicating information was the telegraph invented in the 1830s. The telegraph was the first information-sending tool using wires and electricity. Each letter of the words and each number had to be sent separately by a person using a device(装置) called a telegraph key on one end. Another person would write each letter on
a piece of paper as it was received on the other end! With the telegraph, it took information only a few hours to reach most large cities in the world. However, it would be different if you lived in a small town, kilometers away from a large city. The news you got might be a day or two later.
