Passage B
People have been interested in color and its effects for hundreds of years. More recently, research has turned to the question of how different colors can help students learn better. Believe it or not, some colors can affect a child's IQ (智商). For example, a simple black and white color may cause IQ to become low, while the good use of reds and oranges may raise it as much as 15 points. Be careful not to use too much, however;a little red is exciting, but too much makes people uncomfortable. Bright yellow is exciting to the brain, while the color green is thought to encourage creativity.
Use blue and green to calm yourself. Blue, especially, can cause you to calm down. Something blue in a reading area, for example, may help you focus on what you are reading. But too much dark blue can make you sad, so use light blue on walls or large floor areas.
If you are struggling to read, try a different color of paper. According to a study, 80 percent of children who had difficulty in reading improved their understanding when they put something grey or blue over their pages. Do not use bright colors here, as they become difficult to look at after a while.
However, use bright colors like red, orange and yellow for important points. These colors attract the eye and may help you notice details.
The same color of the walls of a room does not help you focus on your studies, but make you slow in understanding. Colors, on the other hand, make the senses active and encourage learning. Use colors red, yellow and blue in a proper way. Then how do you make your choices of color? It mainly depends on your space, the lighting and the function of the room. 44. The color grey may help you ________.
A. read better B. calm down C. raise IQ D. feel creative 45. If you want to remember some important facts, you may use the colors ________. A. green and B. grey and blue C. red and yellow D. black and white 46. Which is most important when you choose the color for your room? A. Your IQ and abilities B. The use of your room C. Your likes and dislikes D. The location of your room 47. Which might be the proper title for the passage? A. What should we learn about colors? B. Why are people interested in colors?

Passage C
On Nov.18th, 1908, three men went up in a balloon. They started early in London. The headman was Augusta Gaudron, and the other two men were Tannar and Maitland. They had a big balloon and they were ready for a long way.
Soon they heard the sea. They were carrying the usual rope, and it was hanging down from the basket of the balloon. At the end of the rope they had tied a metal box. This could hold water, or it could be empty. So they were able to change its weight. It was for use over the sea. They were also carrying some bags of sand.
After the sun rose, the balloon went higher. It went up to 3,000 meters, and the air was very cold. The water in the balloon became ice. Snow fell past the men's basket, and they could see more snow on the ground. The men tried to throw out some more sand; but it was hard. They tried to break the icy sand with their knives, but it was not easy. The work was slow and they were still falling, so they had to drop some whole bags of sand. One of them fell on an icy lake and made a black hole in the ice.
At last they pulled the box into the basket. It was still snowing; so they climbed to get away from the snow. They rose to 5,100 meters! Everything became icy. They were so cold that they decided to land. They came down in Poland heavily but safely. They had travelled 1,797 kilometers from London!

hate basketball, and they hate us. So we ask them if we can sit on the benches and not play. They agree, and so on the benches(长凳), there’s always a row of girls, talking and laughing happily.
Well, today, just while all the girls were talking happily, the P. E. teacher came in. Angrily, he looked at all the boys, running around with the basketball. Seeing that not a girl was playing, he looked at us. Shaking his head, he blew his whistle. Everyone looked up. We were all surprised.
“Why aren’t you playing?”he asked us.
“Well, they said that we didn’t have to play, Mr. Backus!”We quickly blamed the boys, afraid to get into trouble.
“What?! They didn’t want to play-it was all their fault!”the boys didn’t want to get into trouble, either. Mr. Backus told us to get up and made all of us run around the playground for 5 minutes. Later, he made us sit down and listen to him. The boys complained, but he made them listen anyway.
“Am I ever unfair to you?” he asked. We all shook our heads. It was true. Mr Backus was the nicest P. E. teacher ever! He never shouted, never complained, never anything. He was just nice.
“Well, then I hope you are fair to me. I don’t care whose fault it was. One person’s fault; the whole class’s fault. Understand?”
We nodded and waited. It was the only thing he ever asked us to do; to be fair. It was not much; it was not anything. So we listened on.
“This time I catch you not doing anything, you run for 5 minutes. Next time, you run for 10 minutes. It’s your choice. You could play games or run. I don’t really care, but I think you care. Remember, one person’s fault; the whole class’s fault. Got it?”
As we nodded again, he left. We could see him smile as he closed the door. Mr. Backus could never be mean. He was just too nice. That was why we all liked him and he certainly loved us.

A recent study shows that nearly 50 percent of the school kids in Beijing do not have breakfast. They tend to feel sleepy all day and have bad memories, so it is hard for them to get high marks in all kinds of tests.
Some students who study deep into the night choose to miss breakfast so that they can have a few extra minutes in bed. Others are given money to buy their breakfast on the way to school because their parents are too busy to prepare it for them. In addition, a few school girls want to stay slim and often go to school without breakfast.
