①When does the ceremony take place? 仪式什么时候举行?

②We have never discovered what took place between them that night.

我们从未发觉那天晚上他们之间发生了什么事情。 [易混辨析] take place, happen与 occur take place vi.发生,举行。通常用于已计划、安排或人们积极参入的事情。 happen vi 发生,碰巧。强调偶然性。 occur vi.发生,比happen更正式一些。 ① Great changes have taken place in China in the past 20 years. 在过去的20年里,中国发生了巨大的变化。 ②Accidents like this happen all the time. 此类事故经常发生。

③I take back what I said about you being selfish. 我承认我不该说你自私。

At that time people would starve if food was difficult to find, especially during the cold winter months.在那个时代,如果食物难以找到,特别是在寒冷的冬月,人们就会挨饿。 (1)“主语+be +形容词+动词不定式”是一固定句型。该句型中常用的形容词有difficult, easy, hard, light, heavy, nice, pleasant, comfortable, interesting, expensive等;动词不定式和句子的主语之间必须要满足动宾关系,若动词是一个不及物动词,则要加上合适的介词。 ①The man is difficult to get along with. 这个人很难相处。

The car is quite small, especially if you have children. 这辆汽车很小,如果有了孩子就尤其显得小。 [易混辨析] specially与especially specially专门地,特别地,多指为一特别目的而做。 especially特别是,尤其,指与其他同类相比,某人、某物、某情况达到异常的程度。 ①I suppose I was a bit lazy and now I wish I’d done more work, especially in maths. 我想我当时有点懒,我现在希望当时多用点功,特别是在数学上。

②I made this specially for your birthday. 这是我特意为你的生日而做的。 [即景活用]

3.Some festivals are held to honor the dead, or satisfy and please the ancestors, who might return either to help or to do harm.有些节日,是为了纪念死者,或使祖先得到满足,因为祖先们有可能回到世上给人们提供帮助,也可能带来危害。 (1)the dead死去的人们 ,“the + 形容词 / 过去分词 / 动词-ing形式”可表示一类人或者物,作主语时,谓语动词用复数。

We carried the dead and the wounded off the battlefield. 我们把伤亡者抬出了战场。 [用法拓展] the old老年人 the young年轻人 the rich富人 the poor 穷人 the sick生病的人 the blind盲人 the wounded受伤的人 the dying垂死的人。 ①The old sighed for the good old days. 老年人十分思念过去的美好日子。

②They had to leave the wounded where they fell. 他们不得不把伤员留在他们受伤的地方。

③The government should be considerate towards the poor. 政府应该为穷人着想。

4. For the Japanese festival Obon, people should go to clean graves and light incense in memory of their ancestors.在日本的盂兰盆节,人们要上坟、扫墓、烧香以及缅怀祖先。 in memory of为纪念??

⑤Do I need to dress for the theatre? 我去剧院需要穿晚礼服吗?

⑥They were dressed up in Victorian clothes. 他们化妆成维多利亚时代的人。 [易混辨析] dress, put on, wear与have on dress 表示“给??穿衣服”,其宾语是人,而不是衣服。 put on表示“穿(戴)”的动作,其宾语是衣服,而不是人。 wear表示“穿(戴)”的状态,其宾语是衣服,而不是人。 have on表示“穿(戴)”的状态,但不能用于进行时态,其宾语是衣服,而不是人。 ①Why on earth did you put on that outfit? 你到底为什么要穿上这套服装? Villagers still wear the traditional costume on Sunday. 村民在星期日仍然穿传统服装。

We’re really looking forward to seeing you again. 我们都非常盼望能再次见到你。 [易混辨析] look forward to, expect与hope look forward to意为“盼望,期待”,指怀着愉快的心情期待着。后面接名词、代词或动名词。 expect意为“期望,盼望”,指预料某事将会或很可能发生,多指好的事情。后面接名词、代词、动词不定式或动词不定式作宾补的复合宾语,也可跟that从句。 hope意为“希望”,后面接不定式或that从句。 ①I am so much looking forward to your reply. 我非常盼望着你的回信。 ②You can not expect me to do everything. 你不能指望我什么事情都做。

③I hope that you will have a good time there. 我希望你在那儿玩得愉快。 [用法拓展] 含有介词to的短语: lead to 导致 drink to 为??干杯 refer to 谈到;提及;参考 see to 办理;照料 compared to 与??相比 object to 反对 hold on to 抓住,抓牢;不要放弃 devote oneself to 献身于 get down to 开始认真(干某事) be/get used to 习惯于 = be accustomed to be addicted to沉迷于 come to 谈到,总计,苏醒 on the way to在去??的路上;即将 stick to坚持 be sentenced to 被宣判为 prefer… to…更喜欢 add to增添,增加 pay attention to注意 belong to属于 contribute to有助于;导致;为??做贡献 attend to照料;照顾 ①The little boy is addicted to reading detective novels. 那个小男孩是个侦探小说迷。
