I never wanted a dog, but now I'm so glad I have one.

About two years ago my wife, Cathy, got a little dog with a face only a mother could love. We named her Gertie. Gertie is the kind of dog that has to grow on you. So I decided that the dog would be trained. This didn't quite go as planned. At 15 weeks old, she was nearly made to leave the Pet smart Training School. She spent every night lying in our bed snoring so loudly that I hardly got a good night's sleep.

Then, about six months after she arrived, I felt that something in my heart was taking place, and I was unable to stop it. My behavior began to change. I began to smile at people when passing them in a street. I started calling my kids and, to my surprise, they started calling me. I even tried to speak to my grandchildren over the phone once. I was even glad to listen to laughter from a 10-month-old granddaughter. The point is that I was changing. My wife and I both agree that it is Gertie who has changed my behavior.

Gertie is now nearly two years old and almost fully grown. I have come to like the pet little by little, though she is my wife's dog.

Good health depends on good lifestylesʽ. Read the follow advice and it can help you have good health.

Have a bedtime. Sleep is considered the third pillar֧of health. As a result, getting enough sleep is important. One of the simplest things you can do to get enough sleep each night is to set a bedtime and follow it strictly.

Cut out sugar where you can. I used to have a sweet tooth. If you put cupcakes, ice-cream or cookies in front of me, I'd certainly eat them. But the more I learned about how much sugar is bad for my health, the more I realized I had to cut out sugar of my everyday food. Now instead of juice and soda, I only drink water. And I'm always trying my best to stay away from sugar. Know when to stay off your phone. This is another thing I'm still trying to be better at. We're used to putting our eyes on those small screens. And we often forget something else that's more important. It's not friendly to let your friends wait while you are busy answering your e-mails. Cook food yourself. Salad looks healthy. But when it's made with sugar in a restaurant, it can be different. The same goes for any other food. So the best way to truly know what you're eating is to just make it yourself.

1What kind of food might have less sugar and be better for people's health? A. Water and salad. B. Juice and cakes. C. Ice-cream and cookies. D. Cupcakes and soda. 2Why is it better for you to cook food yourself? A. Because it can help me save, money. B. Because it can make me eat healthier food. C. Because it can help me eat more delicious food. D. Because it can make me eat food with less honey.

3Which of the following is NOT true according to the passage? A. Setting a bedtime can help you get enough sleep.
