There once was a poor but kind-hearted farmer called Fleming, who lived with his wife and young son on their small plot of land in Scotland. One day, when he was returning home after a day hunting in the forest, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby swamp. He dropped his tools and ran to the swamp. There, trapped up to his waist in thick, black mud, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what would have been a slow and terrifying death.
