4 Comparative Study of Corporate Culture
4.1 Values
4.1.1 Wahaha
The following are the contents of Wahaha’s core values. (1) Cherish job and devote wholeheartedly to work (2) Be prepared for both promotion and demotion (3) Respect and promote science (4) Keep improving
It is shown in the first one of Wahaha’s core values that the employees should cherish their work opportunities and make contributions to the company. This value indicates the “group” sense in Chinese culture. The achievements made by the individual are not personal success but the collective accomplishment. China has long been a family-run country, so collectivism has been firmly entrenched in the society. Once we start to work for a company, we should sacrifice ourselves for the group. The last two values shows that the business performance of the company should be based on the science and technology and never stop improving. With the help of high technology, the company can obtain more profits and increasing economic growth. 4.1.2 Coca Cola
The Coca Cola Company, as an organization of long standing, surely owns a set of typical values. The values can be found on the firm’s official website:
(1) Leadership: The courage to shape a better future (2) Collaboration: Leverage collective genius (3) Integrity: Be real
(4) Accountability: If it is to be, it’s up to me

(5) Passion: Committed in heart and mind (6) Diversity: As inclusive as our brands (7) Quality: What we do, we do well
As a whole, the values of Coca Cola are like requirements which are proposed by the company itself. Leadership, collaboration, integrity, accountability, passion, diversity, quality, they all display the determination to be a role model in the beverage industry. The values do not mention what their employees should do or how they behave. All of these demands are directed to the company—an individual organization. In individualistic cultures, individual goals and management of individuals are emphasized. Coca Cola’s six values are like individual goals. The company should manage itself by following these values.
4.2. Missions
4.2.1 Wahaha
In Wahaha’s “family culture”, the company’s mission is defined as “Wahaha brings health to everyone, happiness to every family.”
It is obvious that the corporation take family as the priority in the mission. In Chinese culture, family is the fundamental component of the society. Chinese people maintain that the harmony of the nation is determined by the happiness of each little family. To a Chinese, collective glory is valued more than individual interests. Wahaha, a beverage company, believes that its primary obligation is to bring health and happiness to consumers. As long as this mission is accomplished, the whole country will be prosperous and harmonious. 4.2.2 Coca cola
Cola’s mission includes three articles:
(1) To refresh the world.
(2) To inspire moments of optimism and happiness. (3) To create value and make a difference.
The first one has been used as Coca Cola’s advertising slogan for several times. Basically,

refreshment is the function of cola. This mission demonstrates the expansion project of the company. Actually, Coca Cola has been exploring and developing the overseas markets for years. The company has set up more than 1,200 bottling factories over the world and Coca Cola is enjoyed in more than 200 countries worldwide. The goal is ambitious and risky. The third one “to create value and make a difference” explicitly tells us that the company longs for a unique way. In American culture, personality is valued. People do not act like the others. Making difference is the goal that most of the corporations aim for.
4.3 Philosophies and beliefs.
4.3.1 Coca Cola
Philosophy is a macro and abstract concept which connected with existence. Here we just
discuss philosophies about management and marketing. Wahaha’s management philosophy is proposed in the company’s “family culture”. The contents are as follows:
(1) To unite little families (2) To improve the company (3) To serve the country
It can be drawn from this management philosophy that Wahaha takes self-sacrifice as its
faith. As a successful Chinese corporation, Wahaha not only focuses on its own benefits, but the country’s economic development as well. In fact, most of Chinese companies believe that their achievements are closely related to the government’s assistance. Therefore, they can require the country, government, even the Party for their continuous care and concern. It is well-known that management plays an irreplaceable role in the development of a corporation. Perfect management strategies make full use of limited resources. Wahaha’s management philosophy does not pay attention to the specific managerial methods but the contribution for the country. It is obvious that collectivism is deep-rooted in Chinese corporate culture. 4.3.2 Wahaha
Compared with the Wahaha’s marketing philosophy, Coca Cola dawn up a very simple
