When I was a boy there were no smart phones. Computers were something you saw on STAR TRE(星际航行),and our television only got one channel clearly. Still, I was never bored.

The fields, hills, and woodlands around my house were the nature ready-made playgrounds.

I can remember once hiing to a nearby lae and slowly waling around it. At the bacside of it I was amaed to find an old, one-lane, dirt road that I had never seen before. I immediately set out to travel it. It was full of holes and muddy tracs and deep woods bordered it on both sides, but eploring it still seemed lie a fine adventure.

I waled on and on for what seemed lie hours. I was sure my guardian angel was whispering in my ear to turn around and head bac home but I was stubborn and even a bit stupid, so I waled on.

The dirt road give way to a roc one and then a paved one, yet there was still neither a car nor a house in sight. My legs were getting tired. I noticed that the sun was starting

to go down and I grew scared. I didn’t want to end up trapped on this road in the dar of night, but I was sure it would be dar before I could mae my way bac to the lae again.

I was almost in tears when I turned one last curve(弯曲处) and saw something in the distance. It was a house that I recognied. My heart leapt up! I jumped up and down and laughed out loud. I new the way home! It was still over a mile away but my legs felt lie feathers and I hurried bac to my house in no time. I waled in with a big smile on my face just in time for dinner.

I remembered this recently when I saw a sign that said, “All roads lead Home.” This is true. In this life all roads no matter what their twists(弯曲) and turns are can lead us home again. They can lead us to our homes here on Earth. They can lead us to our homes in our heart, if we can insist.

A primary school in Jinhua, hejiang Province has announced it no longer requires parents to sign their children’s homewor, which was aimed at getting parents to supervise(监督)

their children after school. China Youth Daily comments Putting an end to the requirement that parents sign off on the homewor of their children eases the burden on many parents, as otherwise they would have to do primary school homewor after a hard day’s wor. But there are worries that if parents stop having to sign off on their children’s homewor, the children will not get good grades.

However, the most effective way for children to study is to develop their willingness to learn and do their own studies. When doing homewor, students practice and hopefully apply what they have learned. It is true that teachers are supposed to chec students’ homewor and identify their mistaes. But some parents correct their children’s mistaes by themselves when signing off on it.

It is the duty of students to do their homewor, be responsible for their studies and correct their mistaes. Parents’ supervising their homewor, checing their answers and dealing with the harder problems will only mae children less aware of their mistaes and encourage them to wait for their parents’ help when they face any problems.

Children have to manage their own learning and develop the ability to study by themselves, as competence will not be achieved if a student simply repeats strict tass in which he is assisted in school by teachers and at home by parents.

A delayed satisfaction eperiment conducted by Walter Mischel in the 1960s proved that children with better self-discipline(自律) performed better in their studies and interpersonal relationships.

There is little doubt that parents’ supervision can mae children’s homewor better. But it does not give children the chance to practice their ability to solve problems independently.

8. Why does the author mention the primary school’s announcement in the first paragraph? A. To epress his doubts.

B. To introduce the topic.

D. To clarify his writing purpose.

C. To present an argument.

C. increase the ids’ awareness of being responsible for their studies. D. shift(转移) the responsibility of supervising ids’ homewor on to teachers. 10. Which of the following can be an effect caused by parents’ stopping signing off?
