Students are helping families pass down memories by taking free photos for villagers, the Guizhou Daily reported on Wednesday.
Since 2012, students from Guizhou Normal University in Southwest China have been taking free photos for people living in poor villages.
One of the initiators (发起人)is Wang Bangbi, who joined in the photography department of the school in 2009.
Due to his family’s financial difficulties, he was the last in his class to buy a camera. “I realized later that my mother might have used money for her treatment to buy me a camera,” he said. His mother died of disease in 2012. Wang regretted not taking a family photo when she was alive. That prompted him to consider taking photos for families living in poverty.
Wang and several other students decided to do it together. They collected plastic bottles, old books and newspapers from student dormitories to raise money to buy print paper and other photography equipment.

To save costs and not bother the locals, they stayed in tents in villages where they took the photos.
“Young women dressed themselves up, and the elderly and children put on traditional clothes before taking the photos,” Wang said about their first shooting experience in a village in Liupanshui city.
They found many elderly did not know anything about photography and felt uneasy in front of the camera, not knowing where to place their hands.
The locals were very excited and there were even people who traveled long distances from other villages to have their photos taken.
After Wang and other founders of the photography team graduated, new faces took their place to keep shooting for those in need.
In the following years, team members have taken photos of nearly 5,000 families in the province.
“I once met an old man who was in his 90s. When we suggested taking his photo, he burst into tears,” Zheng Xiaoyu, one of the student photographers, recalled. “I never expected a photo could be so important to them,” Zheng said. 41. Someone once said that only change itself never changes. That certainly seems to be the case with me.
I can measure(测量) my life by the changes that have taken place. And now I am deciding on another change. We are selling our boat after fifteen years of summers on the water.
We bought the boat shortly after we moved to Canada’s west coast. We then joined a boating club and we enjoyed cruising among the Southern Gulf Islands, meeting friends who likes doing cruising on the sea. Skukum, as well we call the boat, has carried us safely through both smooth and very rough water. At about ten meters long it is large enough to be comfortable to live on for days at a time. Also, the scenery in our part of the world is fantastic with sea-birds, dolphins and even whales.
We feel it is time, however, to do something different. Admittedly, this change will be made partly because boating is an expensive hobby. Boats require a lot of maintenance(维修), use lots of gas and cost a lot even when they are sitting still(静止的). Beyond the cost is the feeling that we have done just about everything we want to do with the boat. We could continue to spend summer weekends on the water or we could make a change in our lifestyle and start doing road trips to places we haven’t seen across North America. As we have children and grandchildren on both the east and west coasts, driving trips will be more necessary. So it’s time to make a choice and, having now made it, it’s time to make a change.
Like most changes there will be both benefits and regrets but we feel the time has come. There is no doubt that we will miss the boat but we will also open a new door in our lives. Hopefully, we have made the right decision. 46. What never changes that the writer believes? A. Himself. B. Change. C. Life. D. Hobby. 47. What change did the writer decide on?
A. Selling their boat to change the lifestyle. B. Moving to Canada’s west coast. C. Meeting more friends who like boating. D. Joining a boating club. 48. The boat is large enough to live for months at a time. D. The boat has many sea-birds, dolphins and whales inside.
49. From Paragraph 4, which is NOT the reason why the writer has made such a decision?
A. Besides maintenance and gas, the boat costs much even when it’s still. B. They have done everything they want to do with the boat.
