We are living in a “Micro” time. After micro blogs and micro novels are popular, micro films are growing bigger.
The most popular micro film now is the short series @love. It has
been clicked more than 12 million times since it was released.
Micro films are the product of the combination of traditional films and online videos. As the name suggests, “micro” is the main characteristic, and the length of a micro film can be three minutes to half an hour.
Usually, micro films need less money and are completed in a few weeks. The making of a micro film doesn’t require much: a digital camera, a director and a few actors.
Because of the easy making, many grassroots artists have chances to make micro films. “The fast- paced lifestyle offers chances to micro films,” a director said. The micro films are popular from 2010’s Old Boy, an encouraging story about two ordinary people struggling to become musicians. It got millions of views on Youku.com within a month after it was posted.
Some movie stars have also joined to make micro films. In the past few years, Jiang Wen, Zhao Wei, Fan Bingbing, and so on, have had their micro films made. Football Game, directed by Jiang Wen, tells the story of a poor father who spent all his money for his son watching a soccer game. The five-minute short film gained four million views in just three days.
