Darwin's most famous book On the Origin of Species came out in 1859 and sold out in a day.It said that all living things were related, which meant that human beings were just another kind of animal. These ideas were not popular at first, but now most people agree with them and admire Darwin as a brilliant scientist.

人生哲理

What's the most important thing for you to have in your life? Somebody mentions hard-work,others suggest knowledge, love and luck.

If you arrange the 26 English letters alphabetically and use numbers to represent each of them, for example,1 for a,2 for b,3 for c…,you can change an English word into a number. So hard-work becomes 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11= 98,meaning 98 is its mark; knowledge:11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5=96,while love:12+15+22+5=54,and luck:12+21+3+11=47,a small mark.None of these words can give one a full mark. What about money or prayer? They can't,either.

Then what else? Don't be worried. You can always find an answer to a problem in your life, when you change your way of looking at things or doing things, which is your attitude.Yes,attitude is the word.See for yourself:attitude:1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100,a full mark!

Different attitudes lead to different courses of life. Most times people hope for a better life.It is possible that one will have a change for the better after one has changed one's attitude.

When you change your manner and became friendly towards others, you'll meet more smiling faces towards you.In the same way,if you take a positive attitude towards failure, you'll find it's also rewarding though it has caused you losses.

1.Some people think it is important to have hard-work,knowledge,____________ in their life. 2.According to the passage, the mark of the word “money” is ____________.

3.From the passage,we know it's possible for you ____________ if you change your attitude. 4.People will meet ____________ towards them when they change their manners and become friendly to others.

The routes

For centuries, the Silk Road was the most important line of communication connecting East and West.Although the Silk Road covered a huge distance linking modern day Xi'an with the Middle East and Europe, today one area in particular is associated most closely with the name of the Silk Road. This area is Xinjiang in Northwest China, through which two major routes of the Silk Road passed on the northern and southern side of the Taklamakan desert.

The name

The Silk Road got its name in the 19th century when a German geographer identified it as the route through which the Romans got their silk from China. However, silk wasn't the only thing that passed along the Silk Road;anything that had buyers was traded along the road.Goods were traded from market to market passing through many hands before they reached their final destinations.

Buddhism

The Silk Road was not just the route through which goods were carried. It was also important for the exchange of ideas.Buddhism from India entered China along the Silk Road and had a huge influence on Chinese culture.Greek art styles were popular along the Silk Road and gave Buddhist statues in Northern India classical Western faces. These styles from Northern India were also found in Xinjiang.

The people

One of China's famous monks,Xuan Zang, followed the Silk Road in the 6th century to collect Buddhist scriptures from India.Around 600 years later, one of Europe's famous travelers,Marco Polo, entered China along the Silk Road. Both Xuan Zang and Marco Polo left detailed records of their journeys along the Silk Road.

The Silk Road today

Today, the Xinjiang Autonomous Region remains an international crossroad where traders from surrounding countries, and tourists from all over the world regularly meet.Trade in precious stones, food, drinks, crafts, art, and of course, silk, continues, too.

1.For centuries, the Silk Road was the most important line of communication which connected ________. 2.The Silk Road was named by ________ after he found the route that Romans got silk from China. 3.The Silk Road was not only the route for trade but also an important route for ________.

交通事故

There were many accidents about the students in 2020.More and more people start to concentrate on the safety of the students.Nearly 50% students in a survey say they are worried about robbery on the way to and from school. Now in many big cities in China, some schools have taught an unusual lesson,self-protection.Students like this lesson as there are no exams or boring classes, and they can learn how to save lives and know how to deal with danger.

If you are robbed, keep calm.If you can't cry for help or run away, give the robber your money.Try to remember what the robber looks like and tell the police.

Although no one wants to be in a motor vehicle accident,we can't ignore it.For that reason, you need to know both after and before the collision(冲突).If you are in a traffic accident and a car hurts you,you should take down the car number. If it is a bicycle, try to contact your parents before you let the rider go.This is because you don't know how seriously you are hurt.

When there is a fire, get away as fast as you can,put wet things on your body and try to find an exit.Do not take the lift!

If someone is drowning(溺水),but you can't swim, don't get into the water.Cry out for help. Remember that danger is never as far away as you think.Take care of yourself at all times! 1.Now people start to ________ more ________ the safety of the students, and schools have taught an unusual lesson,self-protection.

2.Students like the lesson because they can not only be ________ exams and boring classes but also learn how to ________.
