Mass Media in China:What can the mass media do to help

people live better?

What kind of age is our age? The development of technology and the abundance of material wealth, is it liberating or restraining people? Is it to push people more autonomously, or to put him on the opposite side of himself which plunges himself into losing himself and moving far away from the real world and the fresh life? Truman Show with an almost cruel story in an allegorical narrative, gives us an intriguing answer.

Obviously, Truman only belongs to Truman Show , a manipulated virtual world. The birth and growth of him, all emotions of him, and without exception, including his death, will be staged on on a stage that has been manipulated and designed. People in the real world is blend themselves with Truman and without Truman, their life can’t be continued, the world will be confused and life will be meaningless. However, Truman not only belongs to Truman Show. He is also the one who lives in the world full of electronic smoke. From birth, to growth, to death, we have to satisfy our infinite curiosity and intellectual desire by kinds of carriers because the limitation of our understanding of the world . In this sense, we have to agree with Mcluhan's the true saying: \

Today, the popularity and rapid expansion of electronic media in the world has fully realized Mcluhan's prophecy about the \in the media era, it’s difficult for everybody to escape the fate of the Truman and nobody can have full of confidence to say that they aren’t relevant to Truman. A century or so ago, a book named The Crowd written by LeBon shocked the world into a new recognition about the role the controlling power played in influencing the masses. A century later, that controlling power puts on a new vest and calls itself the mass media.

In China, there is about 731 million netizen who uses WeChat, QQ, Taobao,

Baidu and Alipay most. While more and more Chinese are being influenced by the mass media, more sober minds worry about suffocating whiff the mass media puff. Due to haste to catch the public attention, many Chinese mass media lose their professionalism of accuracy to rash report.“So wicked it looks loyal; so fake it looks real” speaks true of some if not many pieces of information the mass media presented.

As the mass media, it plays a guiding role in communication.So I think the mass media should guide the public.This guidance is relatively timely. And in return, the public also influence the mass media. But this influence is delayed, for example, today’s public will have a guiding role for tomorrow’s mass media.

Mass media is a carrier for us to understand and explore the world. It is a carrier of public opinion, so it needs to spread information that meet the needs of everyone. If it only stops at the carrier, the mass media will become ordinary and vulgar. So in China, in order to help people live better, it’s of vital importance to consider how to lead the direction of mass culture and convey correct values to the public. Besides, mass media should try to strike a balance between stand for the public and make their own voices independently and firmly.

All in all ,the mass media, as the most powerful mouthpiece of one group or another, cannot withdraw all bad omens from us. What values the mass media deliver to the masses is not the key, but the key is how the public feedback. It is us,who are equipped with better-nurtured minds, that should choose to digest the things they offer.

Life is life, as Truman Show tells, mass media is important and they do have been greatly influencing our lives today. It may blur the boundary between truth and false. But more important, only when the mass media have entered upon the public walk out the times scam that can people live better.
