Things my father teaches me that will help advance my career
We spend years learning the skills helping us find jobs. The only problem is that our formal education doesn’t teach us about achieving career success. 36 He teaches me the knowledge that helps me advance my career.
1. 37 Dad comes from a family of miners. He decided education was going to be his escape route. This allowed him to break the cycle of coal mining. Following his example, I went to university.

3. Do the tough thing when it matters most.
Dad is a sports fan, and he’s most impressed by the players who get the job done when going gets tough. Those who are truly the best do their best when the going is the toughest. 39 It is this advice that makes me volunteer for the tough projects, those that no one else wants to do.
4. Come in quietly, do a great job, and leave loudly.
Dad always believes it is better to shout about what you’ve done. 40 There’s a fine line between arrogance (自负) and confidence and using this advice always helps me stay on the right side of that line.
A. That’s what will make you stand out. B. There are never easy decisions to make. C. If you do the right thing, you will sleep well. D. Don’t let your history determine your future.

阅读下面材料,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
It was the beginning of a new term. As a new teacher in that school, I didn’t know any of the students. A little girl was standing at the gate of the classroom. She looked very shy.
I walked up to her and asked why she stood there. But she said nothing. Hardly had I asked her again 61 a boy shouted, “She is from Grade Four, an 62 (awful) bad student in her grade.” I looked at the little girl, who didn’t seem to be the smart kind. After a moment’s reflection, I became aware 63 the reason why her teacher had asked her to stay in Grade Three. I took her hand. 64 (lead) into the classroom, she was seated at the front of the classroom.
I later learned that her patents died in a car accident. She learned very slowly. I gave her respect and never looked down upon her as I know everybody wishes to be looked up to. I helped
her set a number of small and big 65 (target) and often set aside some time to help her after school. 66 (encourage) by me often made her become more and more confident.
I said to her, “Based on my fair assessment, so far some progress 67 (make) by you but I would rather you 68 (achieve) more in the following days.” At the end of the term, she seemed to have forgotten all her sadness. She was not one of the best students when she left that school, but at least, she was not that shy and sad little girl any longer.
In the following years, it was on Thanksgiving Day 69 she would send me a card. Three days ago, I received a call from her and she asked me if I could attend her wedding ceremony. I answered that I hoped so because I wanted to see her in person. Everyone deserves respect and everyone can be happy! Showing respect for others can be so 70 (benefit) to both ourselves and others.

It was March 8th, Women’s Day. I decided to do something for my mom and give her a surprise.
Immediately after school, I went to the supermarket, when I bought plenty of vegetables, fish and meat. As soon as I arrived home, I started to prepare the dinner for Mom. It was the first time that I had cooked something on my own. Not knowing the exactly process to cook, I read some recipes first. Keep what I had learned in mind, I got down with cooking. Almost an hour later, three simple but delicious dishes were ready on the table.
Since Mom couldn’t get home until thirty minutes later, I started to do some cleaning. It was not difficult for me. Mopping thoroughly, the floor was quite clean. No sooner had everything been ready Mom came back. I couldn’t wait to show what I had been done for her. A big smile
