Our globe is in danger

A variety of environmental problems now affect all over the world. As globalization continues and the earth's natural processes transform local problems into international issues, few societies are being left untouched by major environmental problems.

There are some of the largest problems, such as global warming, water pollution, air pollution and white pollution.

Global warming is an increase in the earth's temperature due to human activities. Many greenhouse gases are put into air by burning fuels and using other energy. The side effects of global warming are alarming. A warmer global climate melts the ice caps, raising sea levels. What is more, it disturbs weather patterns, causing droughts, severe storms, and hurricanes.

With the development of industry and increasing human activities, water pollution, which is mainly caused by industrial wastes，has also become seriously. Polluted water carries poisonous chemicals to rivers and seas, killing animals and infecting our drinking water. Water pollution is not only danger to human health, but also do harm to the industrial and agricultural production.

As to air pollution, it is one of the major problems today. A great deal of energy is needed to run the factories of modern industrial nations. However, nearly all of the energy is produced by burning fuels. The burning produces wastes, some of which remain in the air, causing air pollution. For example, chemicals in the smoke from power stations cause a lot of damage. They can travel hundreds of miles in the wind before falling to the ground in the rain. Besides, people's activities are also the sources of air pollution such as throwing rubbish and smoking. What's more, with more trees cut down, less polluted air can be absorbed.

White pollution refers to plastic pollution. It is a new member of pollution family, but it grows very fast. Sometimes, we can see unrecyclable plastic boxes line along streets, and plastic shopping bags dance in the wind. When leaders are busy mapping out blueprints for the future, one color white from white pollution becomes their headache. Therefore, it is not enough only to ask what governments can do to get rid of white pollution. We must ask ourselves what we can do to color the earth green instead of white.

When people enjoy the convenience of the modern society, they usually ignore the side effect brought to the environment. However, the destruction of the environment makes some places frequently suffer from serious disasters like flood, drought and earthquake. It seems the nature is warning us to take measures to protect our earth. Our globe is in danger.

So, what should we do? We should live a low-carbon life and protect the environment. We can reduce using household appliances, save energy and walk or ride a bike instead of taking a taxi or a bus. We can also plant trees to keep air clean. All these things are quite tiny but can make a great difference if more and more people would like to join.
