Unit 2 Enquiries and Replies

Introduction Enquiry letter

The enquiry letter is the most popular from in business betters. If a buyer intends to make a purchase of some goods, he must often write letters to get information about the price, samples, catalogues, discount, delivery date, terms of payment, insurance ,claim and other terms. A letter of enquiry can be divided into three parts.

The first part announces the topic or subject of the enquiry. The second part specifies details of the enquiry.

The third part reminds the supplier of making an early reply to your enquiry letter.

Reply letter

A reply letter usually consists of three parts: the introduction, the body, and the conclusion.

3.1 Introduction

Your letter should always be headed with the words “private”.

Instead of mentioning the name of the firm under investigation in the letter, it is safe to use “the firm concerned”, “the said firm” or “the firm in question”.

The reply usually contains such words as “this information is given without any responsibility” so as to avoid any possible trouble. 3.2 notes
