hobby is an emotional outlet, for others a way of gaining knowledge. Hobbies keep our minds - and our hands - active. Whatever your reasons are, if you've been thinking about starting a hobby or getting a new one, consider the following advantages to help guide your decision.
Time for Ourselves
One of the biggest advantages of a hobby is it allows for quiet time. People tend to think more clearly when enjoying their favorite hobby, without the distractions of the outside world to bother them. The mind wanders and hobbyists often come up with some of their best ideas while enjoying their favorite time-passing activity. Reveals a Talent or Passion
Hobbyists often find a talent or passion they may not have known they had before. Some people have sat down at the piano to learn how to play, only to find out they've always had a hidden talent for playing it anyway. Others might find they have a niche for or some other craft after only one attempt. But the only way you'll ever discover this hidden talent is to try. The first step is to find something that you're interested in. From there, you might find that you're better at it than you ever could have guessed.
Use a Hobby as a Networking Tool
The only time you should list your hobby on a resume or job application is when your hobbies pertain to the type of job that you are applying for. On the other hand, mentioning a hobby during a job interview might be an endearing quality the potential employer will remember. Mentioning your hobby in an interview can also be a great conversation starter and reflect a small part of your individual personality. Hobbies have a way of implying you enjoy working with others because most hobbies are not individual activities. You'll find hundreds of message boards, forums and clubs that are specifically designated for many particular hobbies.
Hobbies Offer a Time of Relaxation
Exercise for your body

Any physically active leisure pursuit is going to have positive health benefits If time alone is what you need most, going for a bike ride or a swim or a walk are great ways of making a temporary escape
If solitude is the last thing you need you can find something you can do with others—a walking club, a tennis club, a class at the gym

Staying mentally active may actually help prevent Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia
Doing anything stimulating—playing cards or board games, doing crossword puzzles, reading or going to the museum or art gallery may minimize age-related memory loss
Stress is a major symptom of a complex and fast paced society. These symptoms are, but not limited to depression and anxiety. Medical science has documented the adverse effects of stress on our mental, physical and emotional health.
The information age and the
ever increasing change in technology adds to our stress levels. Medical science has provided medications to help treat the symptoms of stress. These medications are important and potentially beneficial, but they are not without their side effects. A less evasive and more satisfying solution to dealing with life's stress is to find a hobby
Hobbies are great distractions from the worries and troubles that plague daily living
The positive health benefits of hobbies can also be seen in the elderly. WebMD
reports that a new study in the New England Journal of Medicine adds new evidence in the benefit of mind-building hobbies. The study showed mounting evidence that mentally stimulating activities such as reading, playing cards, board games and doing
crossword puzzles may prevent or minimize memory loss from the aging population. The study compared exercise to mind building hobbies and found that mind building hobbies do more for preventing Alzheimer’s or dementia than walking. If this is the case, let’s play Monopoly, start the Chess or Euchre tournament before I lose my mind. The positive health benefits of hobbies can also be seen in the elderly. Without any misconception or hesitation I can say that hobbies are good for us. Hobbies can do wonders for our minds, our bodies and our souls. Some people
including myself turn their hobbies into money making projects. So why not join the fun. Dive into a hobby and have a blast. It is good for you.
