整体设计

教学内容分析

The teaching materials of this period contain four parts.The first part is a reading passage,the text on Page 15 with the title of The Return of the Dinosaurs?It mainly talks about the possibility of cloning fierce and extinct wild animals,which always interests film makers and teenagers.The conclusion of the passage is:the chance of dinosaurs ever returning to the earth is merely a dream.

The second part is Reading Task on Page 58,which asks the students to read a passage about a debate and fill in the chart.By doing this,students will know what a debate is and how to organize a debate,which will be helpful in their future.

The third part is Speaking Task on Page 60,which asks students to organize a debate and deliver their speech.This activity will encourage the students to speak actively in class and develop their speaking and listening ability.It will also be helpful to their next task—writing.

The fourth part is Writing Task on Page 61.It asks students to write an article on a debate. 三维目标设计 Knowledge and skills

1.To enable the students to know the chance of cloning dinosaurs and some information about extinct animals. 2.To get the students to learn the following useful new words and expressions:strike,initial,vain,drawback,merely,decoration,adore,hatch,reasonable,strike...into one's heart,in vain,in good/poor condition,bother,be bound to do sth.,from time to time,bring sth./sb.back to life,resist.

3.To get the students to understand and use the following important and useful sentence pattern:

Besides that,there_is_also_a_fierce_debate_over the question whether human cloning experiments should be allowed.

4.To help the students develop their speaking and listening ability. 5.To help the students learn how to write an article on a debate. Process and methods

4.Teaching the students how to write an article on a debate.

教学过程

Step 1 Revision

Check the homework of the last period. Step 2 Lead-in

Show the students the following pictures on the slide and ask students the following questions:

1.Have you ever seen the film Jurassic Park? 2.Do you like dinosaurs?

3.Do you think it is possible to bring the dinosaurs back to life by cloning?

Step 3 Skimming

Skim the passage and answer the question:Is it possible to bring the dinosaurs back to life by cloning?Why?

Suggested answer:

It is impossible,because based on what we know now,you cannot clone animals that have been extinct longer than 10 000 years and dinosaurs disappeared 65 000 000 years ago.

Step 4 Scanning

Ask students to scan the passage and do the following exercises: 1.True or false?

(1)Scientists are still experimenting with cloning mammals because they think it can make money.

(2)Diversity in a group helps prevent animals from dying of the same illness. (3)Zoos are appropriate to cloned animals. bother,disturb,trouble辨析

这三个词都表示“使人不得安宁”或“心烦意乱”。

(1)bother 指干扰别人的正常生活或工作而“使之不得安宁”,可能是故意的,含有使人讨厌的意味。

(2)disturb指使人失去正常秩序而一时得不到安宁,精力不能集中,语气比bother弱。 (3)trouble常指在心情上失去平静而感到忧虑、苦恼或在行动上带来不便,也常用于礼貌的请求。
