第一节 阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)

New York (CNN) – It’s official. ―Bieber Fever‖ has broken and given way to ― Gangnam Style.‖
Justin Bieber, who was first discovered on YouTube in 2008, had previously held the crown
with just under 804 million online visitors. However, rapper Psy on Saturday defeated the teenage pop star as the most-watched YouTube video ever, netting more than 806 million views.
The ―Gangnam style‖ is the title of the song, which has been sung by a South Korean rapper, Psy, who was in fact better known for his stage performances, and this video has made him one of
the most popular dancing icons of the world.
If Americans can make a movie called “Kung Fu Panda” and sell it to the Chinese and it becomes a No. 1 hit in China, then it follows that a Korean artist, too, can rise to the top of the music charts in America, riding an invisible horse and rapping in his own language - Gangnam Style, of course. Wearing a tuxedo and sunglasses, the 34-year-old rapper Psy, whose real name is
Park Jae-sang, is no stranger to the TV world, who has made appearances in The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Good Sunday, Golden Fishery ,just to name a few.
The song has been sung in Korean but the video has crossed all barriers of language, as it has become a massive hit all over the world, regardless of the language. The video, performed in Korean, is downloaded largely by people who don’t understand one word of the language. The dancing style has been seen performed at various night clubs, dance floors, events, and functions, etc. Even famous personalities have been hooked on, as Ban Ki Moon from the UN, also for a brief period, recently tried his hand at the Gangnam Style. Music is a universal language. Psy, quite aware of this, told CNN recently, ―If I have a chance I want my music lyrics to be Korean. The world’s most famous and popular language is music. So if we have some sort of solution with these kinds of dance moves and this kind of music video, can I use Korean if possible? It’s really huge history for my country.‖
For many, the song and the music just resemble fun, but Psy has a deeper meaning attached to the song, as it is a criticism of the wealthy neighborhood in Seoul, Gangnam. It would be interesting to find out how many of the people from Gangnam actually liked the video. Very few people around the world know about the special talent he possesses - the pop star actually sits down to write all his music by himself.
Now, with Psy having gained world wide popularity, fans would be expecting more from the Korean star. So what can we expect from him in his new song? Only Psy would be able to answer this, as it is his think out of the box attitude, which has made him a trend setter worldwide. 26. “Bieber Fever” is mentioned in the beginning in order to ________.

You’ve probably learned lessons by watching other people make mistakes. For example, if
D. criticizes Korean rich people for few of them actually like watching videos.
you saw another kid ride his bike too fast around a corner and fall down, you might ride your bike more slowly on that turn. And the same is true for other animals.
Johnson’s team has discovered that in monkeys, a small part of the animal’s brain is activated when a companion monkey makes an error. The finding appeared in the scientific journal Nature Neuroscience.
Animals mess up all the time. They might eat a poisonous berry, fall off a tree or let their prey slip away. By watching other members of its species fail, an animal can avoid making the same mistake. This may improve its chance of survival. ―Everybody’s life is a bit of a trial-and-error game,‖ Matthew Shane told Science News. Shane is a psychologist who studies the brain at the Mind Research Network in Albuquerque. Psychologists suspected that one part of the brain, the medial frontal cortex (前额皮质层), helps animals process information about others’ errors. Cells in that region appear to become more active when a person makes a mistake or sees someone else making a mistake. But researchers didn’t know whether individual cells in this part of the brain play different roles in detecting errors.
So Johnson’s team studied the brain’s response to errors in more detail. To investigate, the researchers taught a game to two macaques, a type of monkey. One monkey could press a yellow or green button while the other watched. If the first monkey pressed the right button, the team gave both animals a treat. Every couple of rounds, the two monkeys switched roles. Meanwhile, the researchers monitored individual cells in the animals’ brains. When the first monkey failed the game by pressing the wrong button, a group of cells in the medial frontal cortex of the second monkey’s brain fired. But if the second monkey also made the wrong choice during its turn, some of the cells in that group didn’t respond. Those unresponsive cells reacted specifically to mistakes made by others, not to their own mistakes.
Psychologists believe other parts of the brain also might help people process information about others’ errors. ―You start to think about the other person and take the perspective of him,‖ Ellen de Bruijn, told Science News. She studies the brain at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands.
31. What is the main idea of the first paragraph?
A. Watching is the best way to learn how to ride. B. Others’ mistakes are very helpful to us.
C. A rider should slow down around a turn. D. People should warn those who ride a bicycle.
32. We can infer from the third paragraph that ________. A. Life is just a kind of endless trial-and-error game. B. Animals always make more mistakes than humans. C. One benefits a lot from watching others make mistakes. D. The medial frontal cortex processes error information.
33. Johnson’s team studied the two monkeys in order to judge ______. A. what response brain cells make when they find others’ errors B. whether monkeys are much cleverer than human beings. C. what other cells may react to other species’ mistakes.
D. how many cells one has in his brain that can react to errors.
