Many of us read or hear something about poor people and hope to do something to help them. Usually, we only move on.
The Early Show met a woman who wanted to do more and did. But to tell her story, we have to begin somewhere else, a poor place - Pembroke.
People there use up all the food by the third week of each month. There's never enough to eat. But that's beginning to change, thanks to Pam Koner.
Koner lives in Hastings-On-Hudson, N.Y. She said, \it. I was reading the Sunday paper and the front-page story was about Pembroke. People were starving on a regular basis. I told my family that I had just read something that had moved me to tears and we had to do something.\
So she turned to her own community (¶ÅÇø) for support.
Koner said, \an idea. Why doesn't each of us promise to help a family in Pembroke, one-to-one and sending
one box of food each month to meet their needs?\
Koner called her idea Family-to-Family. Families are asked to spend $25 a month on the Pembroke families. Most usually spend a little more.
