CampusSingerGrandShow

Last month,the CampusSingerGrandShow was finished successfully.The grand show roughly went through two stages.First,a competition is held in each class,after which the best ones were entered for the final competition of the school.After the competition,the competitors were ranked and prizes were presented to the best singers.

The show has received positive comments from the students,who say it has provided a good chance for us students to refresh ourselves from our daily studies.

I’m more than pleased to share with you Wang Wei’s story.

On his way home yesterday afternoon,Wang Wei noticed an old lady fall to the ground and didn’t hesitate to help her.After helping her to safety,he dialed 120 and the granny got timely treatment in hospital.

I was deeply impressed by what Wang Wei had done.There is no doubt that such a deed should be encouraged.People nowadays seem to be getting more and more unwilling to help others.Actually,it is our duty to make our world a more harmonious place.

I strongly advocate that everyone should learn from Wang Wei. That’s all.Thank you.

Volunteers are badly needed for the reception work of a group of British students,who are scheduled to visit our school for a two-week cultural exchange program.Basic requirements are higher proficiency in English and interpersonal communication ability.Other requirements include proper manners and a sense of responsibility.Preference will be given to those with previous experience as volunteers.

The speech contest received high praise and is seen as a chance to promote our English studies.

Looking back,I realize what Mum went through sending us kids to school.Every morning she would tuck a new piece of cardboard in our shoes,because our soles(鞋底)were worn out.When we got home,Mum would have “French toast” ready for us.Constant moving was typical for my family in those times.Rent was 25 dollars a month,but Mum couldn’t pay it,and we knew we would be evicted right after Christmas on the first of January.

Christmas was approaching,and we were entitled to a twenty-five-dollar Christmas fund from social services.The inspector came to our house,and searched it from top to bottom to be sure we didn’t have any food hidden away.When he didn’t find any,he issued the cheque to Mum.Mum said that instead of buying food,she would use the 25 dollars to pay back rent,assuring us all of a roof over our heads for a little while longer.She told us then there would be nothing for Christmas.

Unknown to Mum,I had been selling Christmas tree,shoveling snow,and doing odd jobs to earn enough money to buy a new pair of boots.Boots that weren’t patched,boots with no cardboard in the soles.I knew exactly which boots I wanted.They were ten-inch Top Genuine Pierre Paris and they had a price of 23 dollars.

Well,the big day came on the afternoon of Christmas Eve.I was excited,as I hurried up the road to the shoe store,but on the way I noticed a house with Christmas lights and decorations.It was then I realized at our house,we had no lights,no decorations,nor any money for Christmas goodies.I knew that we would have no turkey or ham for Christmas,and I felt sad. 注意:

That day my mother picked me up early from daycare because we were going to a store to purchase some Christmas items.I was excited by the lights and decorations,and as we walked through the toy section on the way to the counter,I saw a toy I had to have.It was a white and red telephone whose bells rang as it was pulled along on a string.Looking lovingly up at my mother I asked,“Mama,can I have that telephone?”

She replied,“Baby,not now,but if you are a good girl,maybe Santa will bring it to you.”“But Mama,I want that telephone right now.”Her eyes narrowed and her hand tightened on mine.“Becky,you can’t have that telephone today,but if you misbehave,you can have a spanking.”
