W: Hello. Excuse me, I’m Connie Fang.
M: Hello, Miss Fang. Welcome to our company. I’m David Martin. Please have a seat. W: Thanks.
M: Are you getting on all right?
W: Yes, the weather is much warmer here than in Canada, and everyone is kind. M: Good. When did you arrive in America?
W: I came last Friday. Miss King met me at the airport. M: Did you have a good trip? W: Yes, thanks. It was fine.
M: Well, Miss King has the key to your office. Her office is on the second floor. Here are some papers to read first.
W: OK, I’ll finish them as soon as possible.
M: No hurry. Do let me know if you need anything. W: Thank you. It’s nice to be here.

W: Wake up, Eric, time to rise and shine.
M: Ha, ho, hi, Jane. I must have fallen asleep while I was reading.
W: You and everyone else. It looks more like a campground than a library.
M: Well, the classroom’s too noisy to study in and I guess this place is too quiet. W: Have you had any luck finding a topic for your paper?
M: No, Professor Grant told us to write about anything on eastern culture. For once I wish she had not given us so much of a choice.
W: Well, why not write about Chinese culture? You seem to be interested in that part of the world.
M: I am, but there is too much material to cover. I’ll be writing forever, and Professor Grant only wants five to seven pages.
W: So then limit it to one place in China, say Beijing. You’ve been there and you said it’s got lots of places of interest and you enjoyed your trip very much.
M: That’s not a bad idea. I brought plenty of books and things back with me last summer. That would be great resource material. Now if I can only remember where I put them.

M: Hi, Kate. How are you getting on?
W: Hey, what are you doing here? I didn’t expect you until later.
M: Well, I’ve already finished everything I had to do at work, so I thought I’d come back and help you. I know you’ve had a busy day.
W: I’ve had a very busy day, and it hasn’t finished yet. Did you remember we’ve got Paul and Hannah for dinner tonight?
M: Yes, I did. Have you got everything we need?
W: Well, I’ve already done the shopping, but I haven’t bought the wine yet. M: Oh, I’ll do that. Have you picked up the children yet? W: No, I haven’t done that yet. They are still at school. M: OK, well, I’ll get them when I buy the wine.
W: No, they’re going to their sports club, so they’ll be there until about six. M: Then I can help you in the kitchen before I buy the wine.

Hello, thank you for joining us for today’s Spotlight. I’m Mike Procter. Spotlight uses a special English method of broadcasting. It is easier for people to understand, no matter where in the world they live. Today’s Spotlight is on an old song that holds an important message for the whole world. In April 1985, something very strange happened. Eight thousand radio stations around the world played the same song. And they played the song at the same time!
This song became the No. 1 played in the United States and in Great Britain. In fact, this song became the fastest selling single of its day. It sold over eight hundred thousand copies in just three days. This set a new world record. Besides this, the song won many American music awards, like the Grammy Award, the American Music Award, and the People’s Choice Award.
But there is something even more important about this song than setting a world record or winning awards. Nearly thirty years later this song still holds a message that people everywhere can still use in their own lives.
“We Are The World”. That is the name of this powerful song.
