PEP Book 6 Unit 2 Part A Let’s talk
Good morning, everyone. I’m number 6. It’s my pleasure to be here sharing my lesson with you. The lesson I’m going to interpret is Unit 2 Part A Let's talk from PEP Primary English Book Six. This lesson will be explained from six parts, namely teaching materials, students’ analysis, teaching methods, teaching procedures, blackboard design and teaching reflection.
1. The analysis of teaching materials (1) Statues and function
This lesson is about “four seasons”. Students will talk about their favorite season and the reason why they like that season best. So the content of this lesson is mainly about the question “Which season do you like best?” and its answer. This topic will develop students’ listening and speaking skills and it will lay a foundation for the learning of next parts of this unit.
(2) Teaching objectives
According to the teaching content and students’ learning level, I set the following teaching objectives.
a) The first one is knowledge objectives. By the end of this lesson, students will be able to master these five words, season, spring, summer, autumn and winter. They can ask and answer the question “Which season do you like best?” Besides, they can read and understand the dialogue.
b) The second one is ability objectives. After this lesson, students’ listening and speaking skills will be improved.
c) The third one is moral objectives. This lesson will foster students’ self-confidence to talk with others in English and let students love our nature.
(3) Key points and difficult points
Next, the key points are five words, five words, season, spring, summer, autumn, winter and the question “Which season do you like best?”
The difficult point is to make student know how to ask and answer the question “Which season do you like best?”
2. The students’ analysis
Part two is the students’ analysis. After two years English learning, students in grade five have mastered some English knowledge. So students can basically understand the new knowledge in class. However, students in Grade five are lack of confidence and they are not willing to talk with others in English.
Therefore, it’s important to make the lesson to be flexible and interesting, making students have more chances to talk with others in English. To achieve this effect, the teacher should use flexible teaching methods and teaching aids.
3. The teaching methods
Part Three is teaching methods. After the analysis of former two parts, I will apply the following teaching methods: Direct Method, PPP Teaching method, Communicative language teaching method.
4. Teaching procedures
Part four is teaching procedures, the most important part. And there are 6 steps in the teaching procedures.
Step 1: warming up and review
a) Greet with students and let students watch the video of “The Four Season’’, asking students what this video talks about.
b) Review five words, season, spring, summer, autumn and winter.
Purpose This design can attract students’ attention and get them interested in today's lesson, leading in the new knowledge successfully.
Step2: Talk about the weather of four seasons
a) Let students enjoy pictures of four seasons, leading in the question “What’s the weather like in spring?” and guide students to use what they’ve learned to describe the weather of four seasons.
b) Show the words, like warm, sunny and students will match the word with the correct weather.
c) 4)Let’s try: Listen to the tape and find the answer of “What is the weather like today?”.
Purpose This design can encourage students speaking in English and develop their listening skill.
Step3: Ask and answer the question “Which season do you like best?’’
a) Show students the pictures of four seasons and let them describe the scenery of the four seasons in English.
b) T: I like spring best. It is warm and pretty. The flowers are very beautiful. What about you? Which season do you like best?
S1: Summer. I can eat ice-cream
T: What about you? Which season do you like best?
S2:…
c) A pair work : A free talk, student will ask their partners’ favorite season.
Purpose This design can make students understand the teaching content easier and have more chances to talk with others in English.
Step4: Learn the conversation
a) Let’s student observe the picture of the conversation. Then they will listen to the recording and answer the question Which season do Mike and Wu Yifan like best?
b) Students will listen again and pay attention to the intonation and try to understand the conversation. And the teacher will explain the conversation.
c) Students will read the conversation after the recording and the teacher.
Purpose This design can help student understand the conversation and improve their listening and pronunciation.
Step5: Practice
a) Role Play. Students will be divided into 3 groups and they will act as different
role to read the conversation. The group who read best will be praised.
b) Make a survey. Four students are in a group. They will ask group members about their favorite season and finish a timetable. The groups who do best will make o performance.
Purpose This can make students practice and consolidate their mastery of this lesson and arouse their interests to express in English, fostering their self-confidence.
Step6: Summary and homework
Guide students to conclude what we’ve learn today, especially how to ask and answer the question “Which season do you like best?’’. The homework is to ask their parents’ favorite season and imitate the blackboard design to write it .
Purpose This can make students know the key points of this lesson and have practice after class.
5. Blackboard design
Which season do you like best? Winter, I like Snow.
6. Teaching reflection.
Students are very interested in the role play and they can basically understand this lesson’s teaching content. However, I should make an extension and teach students use another question to ask somebody’s favorite season, what’s your favorite season?
