In the US, it is unnecessary to take a test to get into a “good” middle or high school. You just attend the school close to where you live. So, many parents will think about the quality (质量,品质) of the local school when they decide to buy a new house. My parents did the same. We finally chose Edison mainly because of the high quality of its school.
In New Jersey, an area with a good school usually means a concentration of Asian people. There are about 300 students in our school. 55% are Asians and just under half of that are Chinese. There are so many Chinese people nearby that we even have our own Chinese school.
Edison is an old town, just like thousands of others in the United States. However, I have treated it as my hometown. That’s where I spend much of my youth, and the memories there can’t be moved at all. 31.Why did the writer’s parents move to Edison? A. Because they were born there.
B. Because it was a better educational town. C. Because the writer began his fifth grade. D. Because the writer didn’t need to take a test. 32.How many students are from Asia in the writer’s school? A. About 80.

A new robot, Pepper, has been designed. It is considered as the world's first with the ability to read human emotions. Pepper looks slightly like Michelin Man. It is four-feet tall with a computer in its chest and human-like hands. Although it is not tall, Pepper is able to talk about everything from the weather to the latest events about the country.
Using its functions, Pepper can react(反应) to people nearby -- making jokes, dancing and even singing in different languages. Pepper can understand expressions, human voice and actions, then react through computer programmes. The designer hopes to create a robot that can understand people well, then it can take action. If you’ve been joining in chat room conversations, or trading e-mail with net pals(网友), you have become one of the millions who write in a special, short form of English.
Throughout the world, every night children and their elders are “talking” online — many of them are talking at the same time.
It’s fast: trying talking to six people once. It’s convenient: three or four words per exchange. It takes cleverness, concentration and quick fingers.
And it requires very simple language. There’s neither time nor space for explanations. Why waste valuable time telling six friends you have to leave for a moment to take care of your little brother when BRB (=be right back) will do?
Want to enter a conversation? Just type PMFJI (=pardon me for jumping in).
Interested in whom you’re talking to? Type A/S/L, the common request to know your pal’s age, sex and location. You may get 15/M/NY as a reply from your pal.
If something makes you laugh, say you’re OTF (=on the floor), or LOL (=laughing out loud), or join the two into ROTFL (=rolling on the floor laughing).
And when it’s time to get back to work or go to bed, you type GTG (=got to go) or TTYL (=talk to you later). People want to write as fast as possible, and they want to get their ideas across as quickly as they can. Capital letters are left in the dust, except when expressing feeling, as it takes more time to hold down the “shift” key and use capitals. Punctuation is going too.
38.When people are online, they talk by ______. A. using body language C. making phone calls
B. drawing some strange pictures
D. making use of a special short form of English
39.The sentence “There’s neither time nor space for explanations” means that ______.
